PS13 Rolling Shell Build

They are still in the box, never even opened them to this day! Could just be a box of bricks for all I know ha ha was going onevia but sold my ps only for it to be totalled shortly after :-( when do we get to know what the bodyshop are doing colour wise or is that staying hush hush?

Lol excellent. Always there though just in case.
The colour is staying hush hush for now.. All shall be revealed after the body shop have done their thing! Can not wait! :)

Things are starting to come along nicely now. Started stripping bits off the engine last night in preparation for the clean up and replacement of seals/gaskets.

Started off with the clutch and flywheel. Then got the manifold and turbo off along with the PAS pump bracket. Had to drill out an old bracket thanks to the bolt heads rounding off. Didn't take long to sort anyhow. So the exhaust side is ready minus a few pipes.

Shouldn't be much trouble to clean up either.

Got the gearbox finished up and painted the other night to so that's put aside now waiting for the rest.

Now I just need to drop the inlet side of things off which shouldn't take long. And then I'll be ready for the clean up once its on the engine stand :)

Slowly coming along with the engine..
Turned out I need a new clutch so I think tomorrow I'll be ordering a Stage 4 Paddle Competition Clutch..

Began removing the front crank seal tonight to but its proving to be a bit of a pain at the moment.
Hopefully get the rear seal done tomorrow.

Need to order new throttle body gaskets and a thermostat housing gasket to after I replaced the thermostat tonight.

Then finish cleaning and paint the block. Put the manifold/turbo back on and crank pulley. Fit new clutch. Gearbox back on. Fit the sandwich plate and water temp gauge sensor. Fix the alternator wiring issues somehow. Drop the engine back in. I think.

New clutch arrived today.
Stage 4 Competition Clutch.. Looking forward to seeing how the car will drive with this. Could be interesting..

Got the clutch on last night. All a learning experience for me as its something I've never done before. However had some guidance from the other lads up there so all went well :) Enjoy this learning malarkey.

Anyways, when torquing up the flywheel bolts I happened to notice they are actually ARP bolts. Finding this has got me thinking that there could be other ARP bolts such as the head bolts. I'll be checking this out soon..

That just leaves the replacement of the front crank seal, painting the block and refitting the turbo. Then just tidying up the engine bay a little and then looking into sorting out my alternator issues somehow.

Got the front seal replaced late last night. And also got the block sprayed up :) Cleaned the crank pulley up at work today and shall be giving that a quick spruce up tomorrow before refitting. Also need to get the manifold and turbo back on but thinking of doing that tonight or tomorrow night..

Just need to sort out the engine bay next and attempt to remove some unnecessary wiring, and then try to sort out my alternator wiring problems.

Then all shall be ready to drop her back in :)

Spent a couple hours with the car last night... Got the manifold and turbo all bolted back on, with braided lines. Couple of clearance issues but got it all sorted eventually. Got my fingers crossed that there won't be any blows this time round as its been quite an issue when the engine was in.. Looking good though :)

Doesn't leave me much left to do now though.. Got a rough list that looks like this..

- Crank Pulley refitted
- New Water Temp Sensor fitted for gauge (Adaptor ordered tonight)
- Sandwich plate and sensors fitted, with new oil filter
- Fit gearbox back onto engine with new release bearing
- PAS Bracket fitted
- Looms fitted
- Turbo Elbow refitted
- Clean engine bay and tidy wiring
- Check out alternator wiring as to why it isn't charging.

Cant think of anything else.. Pretty happy with how everything has gone.
Really can't wait to get the engine back in now though!

So tonight saw the engine make its way back in.
Once it was dropped in and the mounts were bolted up I began putting it all back together. Water lines, fuel lines, rad and hoses, FMIC pipework, PAS lines, looms, MAF, vac lines and earth strap are all sorted.

Come across an issue whereby the clutch slave cylinder won't bolt back on as the selector fork is to close to allow the pin to fit.

I still also need to fit the prop, gearstick, all the fluids as well as run the gauge panel wiring. Heres some pictures.

I've also started making a gauge holder to sit where the central vents usually are.. This should be done quite soon hopefully.

Another evening or two and I should be able to turn the engine over! :)

Slave cylinder will be difficult to push in to get the bolts started as you're fighting the pressure in the system, or is the pivot making the cylinder bottom out?

It's the cylinder being a pain to squeeze up. I'll get a clamp on it or something tonight.

Had a bit more time away from this.. Has since been running after having the engine out.. Last night took the manifold off as there's a small hole/crack on it where the turbo mounts on.

So there's just that to be replaced and then sort the water leak and tidy up the alternator wiring, which now charges.

Then I can get it MOTd and start registering it finally!

As promised, after the drift day I said I'd get back into this and get it sorted!
So last night after a team BBQ, I went up to the unit a done a little to it..
Started off by moving the vent mounted gauges up on top of the dash after a change of heart in their placement. Prefer them here.

Then finished the evening off making a pretty ghetto home spec throttle cable bracket. Its only aluminium but it seems to be strong enough to do the job. I put it down to good design ;)

Next up is tidying up the alternator wiring tomorrow evening and looking at fixing the water leak on the rear of the engine, as well as putting in some new PAS fluid and finding out if that leak has been fixed. New stock exhaust manifold is hopefully getting picked up and fitted at the weekend to.

Well then, this weekend has had some ups and downs with the car.

Started out Sunday by fitting a stock exhaust manifold in place of my cracked Japspeed one. Sorted the blow so all good there.

Fixed the water leak and the PAS leak. All good there.

Car started up fine. Then onto my current issue. I have a misfire which seemed to be worse today than it was yesterday. The car is over fuelling like a mofo. A new set of plugs were put in yesterday and today all look like this..
umasyjet.jpg

I think theres a dodgy coil pack that wants replacing but still doesn't explain why all the plugs are like that.
Doing a compression test tomorrow, along with swapping out the potentially dud coil pack.

General consensus seems to be voting that an injector is causing the issue. I've ordered a fuel pressure gauge so that I can see whats actually going on with the FPR and rail. Other than that I'm not sure where else to go.

Elsewhere my water temp gauge is working fine, oil temp is fine aswell, however oil pressure and boost aren't reading for some reason. Haven't really looked into that yet though.

Getting somewhat frustrated with the whole thing now to be honest. So the sooner it's done the better really...

On another note I'm toying with the idea of stripping the interior loom and engine bay stuff to rewire it all and only have the essential things I need. Although I don't intend to touch the actual engine harness.

I'll end on a sort of high note in that I actually got to drive the thing, which was nice-ish. Got a couple quick pictures. Doesn't look half bad.. Although my girlfriend did give it a quick polish as it was pretty dusty from being sat up for so long.

More progress soon hopefully!

Spent the night with the car again.
This time looking to diagnose the reasons behind my over fuelling issues.

Started out by checking continuity to the ECU for the lambda sensor and water temp sender. Both were present so started the car up and checked the resistance on the temp sender. Which was working.

I'd forgotten to clean the spark plugs so they were still crappy and not the best. This meant it took a little bit of going to get the car started. After I'd done my checks I thought I'd pull the plugs out and just see how they were. All of them looked fine. No signs of over fuelling.

Here's a comparison picture.

Quite a difference. Only thing I can think that seems to have cured it is changing the MAF which did cure the misfire I had! Hoping that will be the last of my over fuelling issues now anyways.

Last job of the night was wiring in my Consult plug that was sat in the loom doing nothing. Not quite sure why it wasn't wired in, but its all done now and just needs testing to make sure it works before tidying the loom back up. Pretty happy with it for now though.

Been busy working away with the car recently. Ordered myself an Innovate MTX-L wideband gauge, got a friend to weld the bung into my decat and finished wiring it all up last night once my gauge pod arrived. Looks good!

Also had my fuel pressure gauge arrive so got that fitted inline with fuel lines. Pressures are as you'd expect.

Sorted out my lack of feel in the brakes this morning to. Started off preparing to bleed the callipers again when a friend pointed out that the rear callipers were the wrong way round. So I had the bleed nipples at the bottom. So of course the air was just sitting at the top.
Swapped them over, bled the system and the brakes are spot on now! Especially with the 8 pots up front!

Other than that, I've just been doing little bits and bobs like preparing the body work to be fitted correctly, running the wiring for the horn I've ordered, checking systems work and sorting out any little bits.

Took the car for a little drive down the road this afternoon. Boost well, drives a little over the place but does need alignment. Very happy with how she feels! Been told it looks good coming down the road!

Planning to take the car to work on Thursday morning so I can get an MOT and start the registration process. I think I'll try and get the alignment sorted as well whilst its a bit nearer the shop. Might do a little photoshoot one day at work to during my lunch.

Few little things to do before taking it though, including a blow in the exhaust and a boost leak test.

Its all coming together! :D
