Saab engined Audi S4 (page 18)

I do have a little update but I was saving it for after this weekend because I've not been able to get much done to be honest - been ill and the free time I have had has been spent re-carpeting the hallway (It does look nice now though!).

This is the little amount I have done..

Took the turbo apart because I'll be running an external WG and want to get rid of the internal stuff properly -

Bit of grinding and pic taking at the same time action -

Gives me this -

Press out the bushing and keep to one side for something else very useful to this project (but currently top secret ;) )

The tiny internal WG port which is the cause of boost creep with these big derv turbos on petrol engines (hence the need for ext WG) -

And finally playing about with the new pillar drill :D (take no notice of what I'm drilling - its just a mock up)...

Things planned for this weekend... finish the carpet laying on the stairs :( :smash: and then over to the garage to whip out the engine from the saab :D - Then I can crack on with mating the engine and gearbox! :)

And finally.... The hallway!

Ok an overdue update, not much has been done to be honest because I'm f'king slack... but I've done all my Xmas shopping already :D

Anyhow, holes-

WTF is that? ;) to those that know what it is, yes I've tried it and yes it works quite well  I think I may have a go at ramping the volts up a little more as its only an estimated 7,000 volts (I thought it'd be a good idea to stick my trusty volt meter on the end of it.... broke it! Forgot that its got MAX 1000volts printed on the front of it :( )

I'll post a picture of my first test item after a few guesses ;)

Oh, also got an external WG -

So, did a tad more last night. Hope the neighbours didn't mind a bit of grinder action at 10pm...

Cool project, nice to see something different!

What is that eletronic contraption you made?

Also nice work on the banded steels, but I though they had to very very accuratley jigged??

Cheers!

The Electro-gizmo is an electrostatic flocker :)

With regards to banded steels, the lip has been parted off accurately (its all level). The band will be provided by a mate who works at a specialist metal fabrication place and has acess to lazer cutters etc. He'll also be welding them back together - Whilst I'm confident with my welds and sure I'd be able to do it without any problems he's got loads more experiance then I have with this sort of thing. It's not something I want going wrong! :D

Well, a big lack of updates because since boxing day I've been seriously ill with swine flu :( so all the work I was hoping to get done on the car didn't get done.

I did however venture to the workshop to have a blast with my new angle grinder that I bought myself for xmas and did this...

Ugly and heavy internal wastegate on the Holset which really is crap for use on petrol cars because they're wayyy to small and only vent one half of the divided turbine housing leading to boost creep.

Much neater and lighter. I'll plug up the WG hole and the big gap of course and get it machined flat.

Happy new year :P

didnt realize that tha Evo and tha Volvo were the same car, surprised there arent more 4wd/rwd conversions out there

Looks like I've been beaten to it with the steels, at least I know what they'll look like though! (I've got a set of them too).

What tyres are you looking at running?

And are all 4 going to be 10J? I was looking at doing 2x 8.5J and 2x 9.5J (on my FC rex).

I've just handed my mate a pair to do them both 10j. I'll mount a tyre and see how it looks and check clearances. If I can go even wider i'll put the 10j's on the front and band the next pair even wider.

In reality I'm pretty sure it'll be hard enough getting the 10's in the back. The fronts will probably get banded to 8.5 / 9j.

I'm picking up the one thats been done tonight and see if I can wang a 215/45 on there asap :D

do you have any links to where you got the parts for your little machine sir? p.m em through as i wouldnt mind having a bash at it.
also cool project shame the hallway and the snow have hindered but life is a pain i suppose.
