Hang on here, weve got a 17 year old who has bought a car, and rather than killing himself with insurance he is getting a mate to help him get it around. 
Rather than waste everyones time here asking what he should get, hes gone and bought a perfectly reasonable MX5.
Rather than spout off on here about how he wants to be in BDC and get sponsorship, hes actually getting out there and driving, in competition. FFS 75% of this board dont even drift.
And all he gets is abuse, the same as the retards that come on every day and waste our time with their pointless dreams? Tough fucking crowd, it seems you cant actually win here.

Autotest is the Graham Norton of the automotive scene and the MX5 is the love sick abortion result of a test tube baby, made by hybridising DNA sourced from Boy George and George Michael (The Glam Years).
The two together are so hidiously wrong it makes me want to claw my eyes out.

least he's doing something and doing that will teach him a lot more car control than booting it round the streets in a honda civic, if i couldn't make drift days and there was some local auto testing i'd deffo go and do it for a laugh, and i'd even do it in my mx5 too.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts as I was reading through the harshness of the replies going on here.
Callum, crack on mate. Have fun doing what you are doing and don't let the sad people who are mocking you get you down or make you feel like what you are doing is wrong/uncool. You're enjoying yourself and I'm pretty sure you're learning a lot whilst you're doing it.
Fair play for getting out in a car and having fun in it off your own back. I was driving my dads 1.9d clio around when I was your age and still messing around with RC cars.. you're a few steps ahead of where I was at that age and good on you!

Admittedly its not my scene either, but its probably the most awesome thing a teenager with limited budget/resources could do, and certainly more mature than some of you "adults" on here

From what i gather on a Monday night for our club meetings there are actually quite a lot of autotests ran weekly around the country. Not too sure on dates though, you'd be best searching for your local motor club who will be running the events.
Restrictions car wise: Nothing
(have a lad coming from leeds on october 31st for the autosolo in a porsche). As i said, best bet is the club who are running the event itself. As a matter of fact, i might be able to help you out with any events local to Basingstoke quite easy, i hear about a lot coming from that area.

Join an MSA afiliated car club - they will run autotests.
We have loads of girls driving at ours, learning handbrake turns and shit. It's a laugh.
Nothing gayer than hanging round with girls though.

I'm extremely surprised that Hartlepool Council approved this event to take place in the centre of town! I would have thought that they would try to crack down on 17 year old yoofs doing this sort of thing!
