Southwall Smokers... Lydden Hill Drift Day 27th April 2013

Why would I drive twice as far to POD, when from what I've been told by someone who's been going there for years, Lydden is much better? Where do you mean in Norfolk too? The only place in Norfolk I'd go is Snet, and that's the same, a full circuit...

I don't understand your pointless comments, the novice group doesn't affect you in the slightest, so why cry about it? Everyone has to start somewhere, and I know a few people who all started at Lydden and progressed fast, or did you just pop out of your mother doing backwards entries?

Blatantly the novice groups fault. :wack:

The only pointless comments are coming from you....Lydden isnt a beginners track so maybe souldnt have a novice group.

They should run it like mallory park....open pit lane and no beginners/novices.

Norfolk and pod is better set up to cater for beginners/novices which is where they could go to hone thier skills....

Open pit lane and more seat time.......Just a thought

Can I just throw this one out there.

Is the novice group at Lydden not for people who are starting out and trying to learn? It sure looked that way to me at the last day. In fact some driving in other groups did too.....

Put the price up to £150, get rid of the novice group, and have a 1/3 of the drivers. Sorted.

Thought you done Engineering- no good at math's thou clearly?

100x100= £10,000

10,000/150= 66.66.. so round up to 67 people.

That would be 2/3's of drivers

That would feed Lyddens greed if you ask me and they would soon bump the numbers up :D

Sorry what i meant was a 1/3 less drivers there. Better? Wanker ;)

gotta agree with ricky here. lydden isnt a learner friendly track, despite what people say, it reduces seat time for everyone. i went out in a friends car who was in novice (he can skid not to a pro level but he is getting there) and all he had was people spinning in front of him lap after lap. obviously people who drive in novice will disagree with the whole ban novices idea. 50 quid more for a better run day and more seat time is a winner to me.

I'd just like to point out that when i started doing these days i was a novice, i'd done a day at silverstone where i sucked balls at drifting, a day at pod where a learnt a little bit but not much, then started running these days and learnt alot more from doing a full circuit,

I dont think its fair to cut the novice group out if you are capable of drifting you should be in the inters group not the novice. We all started drifting at some point and as already said i saw a few in the pro's drop it and where restricted to yellows, so should we say to those people 'sorry your not aloud back'?

From the 1st page.....

Novice..... Either you have done no drifting before or you have done a few days but are still learning to drift.
Intermidiate... Youve done a fair bit of drifting and are a fairly capable driver and dont spin out on every lap.
Expert/Pro.... You have done plenty of drifting and are at a level where you either could hold or do hold a drift licence of some description.

^^By the looks of it not many people read this^^^

We are looking into a lydden drift licence which will help us with 2 things, 1st is placing the people into to the correct groups and 2nd is to speed up signing. The licence would have your driving licence no on it so we wouldnt have to write it down each time.

Open pit lane aint an option at lydden anymore, we tried it and it was carnage so part of the agreement to have drifting at lydden is that we must have a divide between different skill levels,

Clive your maths is pretty good but 13.500 is not profit, not by a long long way & pm me about the issue in dec, i'm pretty sure i know what it is and we're having trouble finding a good solution for it.

Ok, look at it from a "novices" point of view.

First time @ Lydden I went in novice, first time on track drifting (not first time on track by a long shot)

Had a shit time, was near enough stand still 90% of the time with people all queing for the "BDC" section half the time spinning or just going slow and being in the way, had a shit day, went home pissed off and annoyed.

Second time, was in intermediate, yeah ok, probably not the smartest idea because of my previous piss poor skids attempts, had an awesome day, yeah I spun occasionally but the fact the speeds were far higher allowed me to go in harder and actually do some semi decent skids (not to some peoples standards but I had fun and didnt cause any accidents)

You can all say norfolk and santa pod are aimed at beginners, but truely, nothing prepares you for track other than being on a track, you dont learn proper track etiquette in a carpark filled with cones.

Its all well and good for all the "pro yo hardcore been skidding longer than youve been alive" to say fuck off novices etc, and right now I would say "how are people meant to get better" to which you'll say "goto pod, goto norfolk, goto arena, suck a dong" but the matter of the fact is you cant get good at something if venues dont allow you too. lets say youve got some don corleone of skidding at Pod, you throw him into intermediate at lydden, speeds have doubled, theres more to watch out for and then all of a sudden this person who has learnt all he could learn at Pod is now slowing down the intermediate group, thus for more moaning and more bitching.

If the price were to goto £150, I wouldnt bother, thats then £230 for the ticket and fuel, not taking into account tyres, parts for the car, etc etc.

Only need to retain 66% of the drivers to get more seat time i know a lot would be more then happy to pay extra for it. Also i learnt at pod and got to a good enough standard around cones in a car park before going mallory and lydden!

You are one person.

Not the world.
