Id also look into a bit smaller housing. I have holset he351 with 14 housing on 3 liter rb30/25 running 550 HP and no issues. Running ~1.5 bar of boost
And yes holsets are mostly used by people on a budget but id much rather use a holset than an eBay special. Problems usually occur when you cheap out on the supporting mods or choose a wrong holset. Crappy design or leaky manifolds, eBay fpr, fuel pumps, injectors, no boost controll, copy mafs etc etc.
Also often people (atleast here in Finland) without ANY research or knowledge just buy "some big holset" without thinking about the size or their goals at all. They buy a 700hp turbo when their eBay injectors (or some other parts) can only support 250hp and then cry that all holsets suck.
When supporting mods are of good quality and turbo well suited for the goals and setup, holsets seem to deliver reliably.
IMO its better to invest on good quality support mods and use a cheaper (for example a holset) turbo than buying a 3000€ turbo and then Chinese copy supporting mods.
