The "when racing was fucking awesome" thread, 70's, 80's, 90's ahoy

UP!

Has anyone got/know where the video of Mark Skaife going round everyone off the start line, on the grass, in an R32 GTR is?
Can't find it for shit!

I'm of the personal opinion that rallycross is one of the best motorsports out there at the moment, but seeing late 80's/early 90's rallycross must have been something else. Group B cars, with even more powered squeezed out of them, then driven on the ragged edge.

The RS200 never really floated my boat when it was rallying, it was only after I saw it as a rallycross car that I promoted it to the top of my car "want" list!

The first garage I worked at had one

Also seen one with 1000 miles on the clock guy took it shopping

Said it was slow compared to his rs 500 so a blue oval man

That is fucking awesome. That sitting in the work shop would pretty much guarantee I'd get no work done during the day!

Pity he couldn't park it! :D Interesting to read the comparison with the RS500. On paper I'm sure even the "basic" RS200 would be quicker then a stock RS500, but then how many RS500's are still in stock configuration... My pick would be an RS200 Evo, just need those lottery numbers first!

The reason I went for the job was because of the rs 200 and escorts wrc car they had

Probably the one car I looked forward to cleaning

Group B rallying was banned in the mid 80s, but thanks to a bonkers French rally series, it's alive and well in all but name.

3rotor 20B peripheral port, 4wd, mid engine, flame throwing Peugeot 205!

Speakers up, as it sounds fucking insane-

In-car vid is fucking mental, bouncing off the limiter in 6th through fields, up mega narrow tracks at bonkers speeds, and some ace street skids on the tarmac bits too-

Another short vid-

It's mad idle and some serious hillclimbing-
