well i blew my sr20det motor up last month and wanted to do something a bit better so i bought a 1jz, then found a 2jz so bought that ! i knew about the understeer when putting a 6 cylinder into a silvia (PS13) but now ive bought the engines everyones telling me that its really bad ! im sort of stuck wondering what to buy parts for !

Any suggestions which one to use ?

Matt

leave the SR20 in it... youll prob find that everyone that has ever put a 1jz in an s body without moving it back well into the car would have preferred to have an SR in there... nissan spend millions desiging these cars, dont think you can do better :D
find some more cars to put the toyota lumps in :D

What's with the handling issues? There are tons of 6 cylinder S-bodies out there these days that handle just fine, of not great.

From what I've been told, the idea is to mount it further back and lower. This will help with the balance issues thanks to extra weight.

This is just from what I've been told when I asked around here and there when I considered buying a S13 shell to put my RB25 in.

yeah i did think about cutting the bulkhead and moving it back but it looks like when you need to take a sparkplug out the engine needs to come out ! lol
im thinkin sr20det motor but gutted i have them other 2 engins sat there !
like jason said mite find something else to put the toyota motors in !
i'll see what ppl think cos if you these guys dont have many problems i'll still do it

well, everyone who ive spoken to who has done a swap like that wishes they had stuck with the SR :) no point in overcomplicating things, unless you want trillions of horsepower theres no point :)

i went rb in my s13, was okay but i much preferred the sr i have now.

if your going for over 450bhp then go with a rb/jz otherwise sr all the way

if your looking for a project, and like building cars, then yea by all means do a trick engine swap, but if you want to drive the car and have fun in it, keep it simple :)

I have an rb25 in my s13 and I like it, can't really compare it to the old ca because the cars has changed a lot.

I really like the power delivery of my engine and I think I have built a car that handles pretty good too.

If it were me I would stick the 1j in  although iam interested to drive an sr engined s13 with similar setup and power, would like to see which I prefer.

2J all the way.

There are a number of 6 cyl S-Chassis back in Vancouver drifting regularly without any handling issues at all.

None of the engines have been moved back through the firewalls at all.

The power delivery and reliability at higher HP levels wins my vote.

Honestly, tho, I would sell all three and buy a V8.

1UZ-FE or LSx

sr, people bitch about the 6 cylinder converted cars handling the best, but the best s bodies i the world are ALL 4 pot, bar the dw s15 but that is a whole other beast!!! lol

400bhp in a sr is ALL u need, people forget about power/weight/grip balance!!!

sr just better OK !!

providing you do it properly instead of slapping it in there, by mounting it more towards the back etc and with a decent suspension and chassis setup i cant see why it wont handle well.

Audi's iirc suffered alot from this by having way too much weight in front of the front wheels, causing alot of front end heavyness and crap handling.

Matty (valver) I have said to you from day one mate that if your going to compete JZs are not the way fella:no:.

Two JZs later and your asking it again:wack: lol.

I have spoke to a few guys that compete and run or did run JZs in s bodies and the general reply is its not the best at high level drifting and wished they stuck with the SR.
Don't think if you build a JZ s13 its going to be able to compete like Phil's car coz thats not going to happen unless you win the lotto and put loads of time into it.

But if you only want to use it for practice days and the like then it be ok.

SR FTW

Im also interested to see where this goes. Im contemplating the same three engines.

Phils s15 seems to handle and drift pretty well?!

phils had the firewall moved back quite a bit so the engine could be mounted further back iirc
