Anyone think formula-d is wank?

I think the only negative thing about the cars having massive power in fd is that without loads of sponsors its kinda hard to compete as a privateer.

Yeah, same with Formula 1.

Or in reality, FD is like the Premier League of drifting. And just like football, there's countless leagues below it, and you just do one of them instead, simple.

It's pretty much impossible to be truly competitive in BDC SuperPro unless you're very very rich unless mega sponsored, and that's a whole different planet below FD.

800-1000hp and there are guys around the 600 mark who are bitching how they can't keep up with the 1000 once so they end up shifting weight and shit like that. But despite the hp figure they all pretty much want to run NOS

I might dig it if they got rid of the annoying as fuck announcers and showed more driving and less bullshit.

LOTS OF SMOKE
LOTS OF NOISE
LOTS OF BIG POWERSLIDES
not so much intricacy
Although from seeing other videos of the drivers outside of d1 comps, you can't knock their skill

Its still the biggest drift event. or "brand"
The problem is the unlimited funding. which is ok in USA but sometimes ppl just get tired of it as the lockout happened in NHL. If there was a sponsor/team funding limit, the competition would be more equal, because each event costs about 5-10k for the rookies. and the same costs to the biggest names for each run, but they dont pay it out of their own pockets, they have sponsors.

Anyway I went to FD Miami to shoot some FRS / BRZ drifters, but only Tuerck made it to Top16.
So I just walked around and made a vid:

I thought i'd bump this. I was luckily enough to get to go to Long Beach for the season opener the other week. And I feel I was definitely wrong on a few points, it's opened my eyes.

First off apart from the uncharacteristic weather, the day was awesome. I hated the long break watching the streams, however when you are there spectating. The break is such a good idea, I was able to stand behind a clipping point for the first session for first session. Then leave the event in the 3 hour break and go get some decent ale, come back in look at some cars and actually talk to some drivers. then stand at the same point for the finals, happy, rested and boozed. I'm glad its catered towards the people at the event rather than the people watching online, something i hadn't appreciated before.

When I initially posted before it was after Atlanta in the wet, and I complained about shit entries. There is no way the stream will prepare you for how fast these guys go in the dry, they need a in car cam or something. The stream is very deceptive. However i think they need more weighting on Entries. Some drivers were balls out with crazy angle all the time, however some guys were so safe, it seemed like proximity was primary, doing crazy shit secondary.

I would love to see a spending cap. The mismatch of spending was crazy. Maybe because i'm not an american I notice it more. The Ford Performance area was massive, as such Vaughn Gitten was out of reach and very separated. where as most of the drivers were happy to talk to me, which was awesome. And had family and friends selling merchandise.

I think i'd like a power limit too, 600 is enough surely? that would help with the smaller teams with spending, increase the variety of engines. I dread to think how much Aasbo's 4 cylinder cost. but i suspect it would be out of reach to 50% of the teams there. however it was great to see a 4 cylinder. If the power limit was lower there would be room for a great variety. Again maybe it's because i'm not american.

I had a great day, and whilst there is some stuff I don't like about it. I had an amazing day, watched some crazy stuff and learnt a lot. I'd strongly recommend for you to go.
