So I used to have an MX5 which I loved and always said I would drift, but never did.

Then I bought an E46 320i daily planning on boosting / ITBing the 5, which never happened.

So the 5 got broken for parts and a bought a Leon Cupra R which is a great daily for me,but didn't scratch my RWD itch. So a cheap E36 318ti compact came up which got bought.

An E30 medium case, lower ratio (4:1 maybe? I can't remember) welded diff and I attended my first drift day just 2 weeks after I bought it.

Started badly with understeer.

Up went the tyre pressures

And after a bit of advice from the lads up there it came together.

Loved it, can't wait to get back at the next one.

I try and do a bit each weekend as the car isn't sat on my drive. So I snapped a bolt in my passenger bucket today trying to get them to work with seat belts. Retard move by me, but i'll get it out quick enough.

Wound the rear down to try and get rid of some understeer. It sits nicer too.

Next weekend is front spacers and camber shims. Any advice on how much to add for how much camber would be welcome as I'm just going to whack a load on and see how it gets on.

So with the next event coming up on the 15th thought I'd best get myself some more wheels and tyres to make the most of the day.

I'm also planning on using a trailer rather than insuring and taxing this thing. Any handy ideas on how to make the front bumper quick release? Not cable ties...

Looking good dude,

How did you get round the understeer? My 316i is shite for it, thinking of the camber washers and stickier front tires....

Thanks, it's getting there now.

15mm spacers and 2 washers for camber, also dropped the pressure a bit. Driving it on sunday so will let you know if there is an improvement. Once I've got more money it'll be wider front wheels with half decent tyres rather than pikey super cheap things.

Coolbeans, i think pikey grade tyres might be the root of my problem lol

Keep us posted!

If you throw away your arch liners the bumper takes 2 mins to remove. 4 x 13mm nuts behind the trim strips then pull.

I thought that, but then won't it sag at the corners? Got rid of the crash bar behind it too, it was all bent out of shape so I think it's been bumper at some point :smash:

The corners are on sliders so they don't really sag too much, love this build as it looks exactly the same as mine did when I got it

Thinking of nabbing a 316 as a learner. What did you have to do to make it skidable? Just chuck it in with big clutch kicks?

I havent been on any skid days yet tbh, only cheeky streeto on some quiet industrial estates. Diff is welded, ebay spec coilovers, powerflex bushed rear end, bang 60psi in the tyres and go play lol. Being lower power, you will need higher entry speeds though

Yeah my local is buxton so gonna have to fuck about in empty car parks so I don't bin it in the wall first time
