OK, So semi-serious comment time due now that they have found water on the moon!
Lets all for one moment imagine that earth is this big -> . <-
and the next nearest object we can see is the moon which is here -> <-
But! its smaller than earth so we cant see it here on
Then we have Mars , Jupiter and Saturn.
With Jupiter being the largest of those , and, its distance from earth shall we say it's this big -> :: <-
Then we have Saturn, Uranus (Stav and Lightning, stop giggling at the back of the room, we know what your thinking!
) and Neptune which due to their size we shall say they are this big -> . <-
Then we have Pluto! Due to its size and distance its this big -> <- i.e too small to be seen on DW.
SO that takes us out of earths solar system.
Now lets compress that a little if I may,
our Solar system resides in a Galaxy known as the Milky Way, named after a chocolate bar due to the similarity of the colour of the inside of aforementioned chocolate bar.
So here's our Galaxy -> . <- and our sun is just one star of, according to wikipedia, 100 - 400 BILLION stars each with their own solar system most likely.
Now our galaxy is also surrounded by satellite type galaxies, similar to the way the moon orbits earth. Each of which probably contains as many stars as the milky way does i.e 100's of millions of suns similar to our own each with its own solar system.
Then we move to other galaxies near to ours then we are getting into Billions of suns, not that 100's of millions isn't already Billions but im trying to make a point!
Each sun still having its own solar system like ours.
Now lets go out a little further into space! Its where I spent most of the 90's!
About here - >
<-
We are into TRILLIONS of stars i.e SUNS each most likely with its own solar system.
A Little further out and we are here ->
<-
Close to the edge of the known Universe, which thanks to the Big Bang is still expanding! Woooooohoooooooooooooo!
Now we are into Hundreds of trillions of stars i.e Suns each with their own solar system most likely.
Now we know the rough size of everything, ask yourself this!
Are you the only person in your house?
Are you the only person in this thread?
Are you the only person in this threads section?
Are you the only person on
Are you the only person on the Internet?
If the answers is NO. to any of the above questions, can you really think then we are the only planet upon which life in some shape or form has appeared in the entire universe?
We are not alone!
Having said that, I've yet to meet one of the little green men from Mars!
However, it is a massive fucking playground for mankind to make use of since we actually understand it for what it is! A fucking massive load of rocks and plasma floating in space!
Unless mankind as a species starts to populate "Space" then we are destined to die of suffocation on a lonely blue planet in the middle of nowhere..........
Science lesson over for this year
