Not so N/A S13 anymore...

Had an eventful few days...

Started off going over to Jamies to work on his S13 for him, cut his rear arches out and raise them up so he can run his S13 nice and low without any arch issues, got a quick pic with a digger that was next to his unit!
IMG_20190402_100005-1984x1488.jpg

Also grabbed a new driveshaft off him as my passenger side one was shagged! Soon after removing my old driveshaft and getting this one ready to go in, I found out it had a split boot - great
IMG_20190403_120424-1488x1984.jpg

Ordered a new boot the next day and got that fitted and now have a nice non-shagged driveshaft!

Then I lowered the rear another 15mm
IMG_20190403_150256-1984x1488.jpg

Also added some more front camber so the car should hopefully be a bit more stable on angle at speed - Car is booked in for Alignment at Atec-Align in Huddersfield on Tuesday so hopefully get it all pointing in the right direction ahead of Driftcup next weekend!

Yesterday(Thursday) morning, I woke up to all of my wheels missing, that included my set of 17" Rota Grids(fitted with Brand new Kenda KR20 225/45/17), a set of 4 Kenda KR20 225/45/17 tyres unmounted, and my 8 16" Rota Grids that I have for sale currently... These are the thugs that thought they could walk into my garden and take them.

After posting on Facebook and my post getting over 250 shares, a friend contacted me to advise that he had some wheels nicked a few months ago, and he somehow found that they were at Brotherton's Scrap Yard in Otley(an hour from me). So I chanced it and gave them a call, and straight away the guy on the phone said he had my wheels and that apparently he didn't want them as he had seen my stolen post on facebook but another worker at the yard bought them - some shit regardless but he said if I come the next morning I can take them. Anyway me and Amy headed their first thing this morning(shout to my mum for sorting school run for the little one) and got the scrap yard for just after 9am and low behold ALL of my wheels were there and even my 4 tyres were there ready and waiting for me. We had fun fitting 12 wheels with tyres into the back of the tiguan, and we had to put the 4 tyres on the roof held on by a bit of string that was laying around in the scrapyard...that was fun and a bit of a sketchy drive home.
IMG_20190405_100451-1984x1488.jpg

Regardless, I got all my wheels back so next time they'll know not to fuck around.

Fucking Scum mate. Glad you managed to get them all back though.
Sorting something more secure for the future?

They're being stored elsewhere now - safe and out of the way, just a bit of hassle for me as they aren't just outside now lol - currently in the process of looking for a builder to sort me a garage on the drive anyway so once that is built they will be going in their on a tyre/wheel rack

**LONG POST**

So... Driftcup Round 1 is done! Onboard Footage at the bottom

Go back a few days previous, and I had a few little bits to do to be Driftcup ready...

First up was fitting clear vinyl to my front windows - part of Driftcup regs so that if the glass smashes it doesn't go everywhere, but no matter what we did it just bubbles ALL over.
IMG_20190410_145055-1984x1488.jpg
IMG_20190410_194507-1984x1488.jpg

Then took the car for alignment at ATEC-Align in Huddersfield - used their Hunter system to get the car pointing how I wanted it to.
IMG_20190409_135125-1488x1984.jpg
IMG_20190409_135104-1984x1488.jpg

Also did a bit of fibreglassing on my old front bumper, might aswell make it decent just incase I absolutely obliterate my current front bumper, this can be used as a spare...
IMG_20190408_144855-1984x1488.jpg

Also took the car down to Driftnuts to get some final stickers added ahead of Round 1 - Check out Adam's s14 with "Intergalactic Blue" wrap

Finally ready to rock - got the car all loaded and headed over to Three Sisters on the Friday Morning, got their about Lunch time, and just as I drove through the gates into the paddock, a warning came up in the Tiguan to say "CHECK COOLANT" - anyway, unloaded the S13 off the trailer and went and put the trailer away, came back and parked up and noticed this - where the Tiguan had been whilst unloading the S13
IMG_20190412_123641-1488x1984.jpg

Then looked underneath the Tiguan and could see it pouring out - great....
IMG_20190412_121903-1488x1984.jpg

Called AA and they came out and diagnosed it as a cracked radiator - arranged for a recovery truck to come at 5pm to collect me and the tiguan and take me to Jimbob's Motors in Todmorden to get it sorted.

Anyway! Went out for Friday practice and had loads of fun, the car felt really great, and with the added front camber, the car would happily hold more angle which meant I could be flat out for most of the layout for Round 1, only letting off for the transition...

Come in at the end of the last session and drive to the pits and park up, get out and notice a trail of coolant on the floor, laughed to my mate saying it'd be hilarious if it was the S13.

Next minute...
IMG_20190412_172922-1488x1984.jpg

Where the radiator mounts to the chassis, it had been rubbing in 1 corner and slowly rubbed through and caused a pin hole which meant coolant was pissing out everywhere - GREAT!!!!

Put out a call and one of the commentators for Driftcup said he could bring me his radiator from his SR E30 - so he brought that over for 8am the next morning and within the hour I had it fitted and running - NO LEAKS - WOOHOO - I also added a small bit of silicone pipe cut in half to the edge that rubbed through the last radiator to stop it happening again.

Ok, no more drama now I promise - as this is getting a bit long!

Saturday Morning practice went well - I was more focused on getting my qualifying line right more than anything so did many runs where I was leading - felt confident
FB_IMG_1555400447517.jpg
FB_IMG_1555400469428.jpg
FB_IMG_1555400473314.jpg

Qualifying came round and I sat in the queue cacking myself lol, was quite tense! Anyway, on my first run I managed a 70.3, and my second run was a 66 - My first run got me an overall qualifying position of 4th out of 44 drivers which I am MEGA happy with!!
FB_IMG_1555400453861.jpg

Then battles came around, and my first battle was against a Turbo'd White E36 Saloon, I put down a decent lead run, and then on my chase unfortunately he spun so I got the win moving to the Top 16, not how I wanted it to happen but a win's a win!
FB_IMG_1555256231221-1984x1322.jpg

Top 16 came around and I was against Jamie Stanton in his 1JZ E36 Touring, this thing was fast! Lead run went well - hitting all the clips and holding decent angle.
FB_IMG_1555393580535-1984x1322.jpg

Chase run and he left me, I underestimated his speed off the line but I managed to gain some proximity back over the course of the run, and the judges decided they wanted us to go OMT!
FB_IMG_1555393582498-1984x1322.jpg

This time I knew I had to drive perfect, so I put down a decent lead line again hitting all the clips whilst holding good speed and angle!
FB_IMG_1555359450992-1984x1324.jpg
FB_IMG_1555393584359-1984x1322.jpg

Chase run, and I stuck to his door alot better than my first chase run and I was mega happy with it!!
FB_IMG_1555359453131-1984x1324.jpg
FB_IMG_1555393586264-1984x1322.jpg

Unfortunately not enough to give me the win, but we sat on the line for a good 3 minutes waiting for a decision so it must have been close!

Whilst I was packing the car away at the end of the day and loading it onto the trailer, my phone started ringing and it was Amy, she said I needed to get to the award ceremony ASAP as I had won something.... Shocked, I legged it to the Podium and was awarded the Hard Charger Trophy for my hard driving and consistency over the 2 days!! I was over the moon!!!
FB_IMG_1555185368663-1984x2645.jpg
IMG_20190413_203941-1984x1488.jpg

This S13 that me and Amy had mostly built on the drive behind our house had performed flawlessly over the full weekend and enabled me to drive to the best of my ability and come away with a trophy at my first ever competition event! I was gob-smacked!!
FB_IMG_1555185377298-1984x1488.jpg

I apologise for this massive read and many photos, I just wanted to get it all down on paper lol!

Massive thanks goes to everybody who has helped/been involved with getting to this stage and I look forward to the rest of the year!

Onboard footage from the day!

Decided to go Teesside drift day on Easter Bank Hol Mon, only doing the afternoon though. Got my radiator tig'ed up and re-fitted, bled up etc and no leaks thankfully!

Shout to the photographers for standing out in the heat all day getting cool photos (It was a warm day, 22 degrees or something)!

*Small issue*
During the first session out, I noticed that when moving forward in the queue for my next run, I didn't need to brake, as the car was doing it itself... Sticky caliper I thought at first, so headed into the pits and, jacked the front up and tried to turn the drivers wheel and it was extremely tight, so thought i'd found it, tested the pass front wheel aswell and that was also tight, very odd - it was like the brakes were very lightly pressed all the time, even when I wasn't in the car! Anyway, cracked the bleed nipple on the caliper and tightened it again and they were free again. Gonna test this at home but from what people have said, it sounds like the master cylinder is fucked.

Onboard video from the day is here on my Youtube - Chulme1234:

Bought a new gearknob....

Matches my car ;)

IMG_20190426_141044-1064x798.jpg

Then went about hunting down my mysterious brake issue! Got the car jacked up and checked the brake lines and noticed this straight away, this happened about a month ago when I was lowering the car off the jack and it slipped and the jack went onto these pipes - I got some pliers and tried to make them more round - but this didn't fix the issue...
IMG_20190430_112954-1064x1418.jpg
IMG_20190430_112950-1064x1418.jpg

Next was changing my BMC, luckily had a spare!
IMG_20190430_142114-1064x798.jpg

The old one was grotty as hell...
IMG_20190430_142536-1064x1418.jpg

Cleaned up around the servo and fitted the new BMC.
IMG_20190430_153445-1064x1418.jpg

Then with the help from my lovely assistance from my gorgeous girlfriend, I bled the brakes and had a good pedal again - took the car for a trip to Showcase to watch End Game(HOW GOOD IS IT?!?!?!) and no issues at all thankfully! Happy now!
IMG_20190430_153459-1064x798.jpg

Also did an Engine & Gearbox Oil Change with fresh Driven Racing Oils, DT50 for the engine and STF for the Gearbox - overfilled the gearbox to 2.2L as per normal process...
IMG_20190430_115127-1064x798.jpg

Acquired a Front Tension Rod Brace, got that fitted after taking a little time to crack off the nuts in the middle to adjust it
IMG_20190429_163100-1064x798.jpg

Hoping this will make a noticeable difference, especially from what I've read about them, I also plan to make up braces for the Tension Rod Brackets aswell at some point
IMG_20190502_143337-1064x798.jpg

Just as I was finished I was moving the passenger front wheel and noticed some up and down play in it...First I noticed that the lower locking collar on the coilover had come loose a bit which was causing a bit of play, tightened that back up and there was still some play! Wheel Bearing ffs - Stripped everything off
IMG_20190502_150726-1064x1418.jpg

Fit the new one, and when I tightened the nut up, the wheel bearing was seized, eventually noticed it was the backing plate was protruding. I took the executive decision to remove it completely, drilled out the spot welds used a flat head and a hammer and finally got the cover off.
IMG_20190503_195533-1064x1418.jpg

Refitted the bearing and all was good in the hood, although this one is extremely smooth, it makes the drivers bearing seem very shit in comparison! Might have to change that at some point.
IMG_20190503_200500-1064x1418.jpg

Last but not least, bought an in-car charger for my GoPro so i can record more than 2 hours of footage before the battery dies, this means I had to drill a hole in the case though :O

Only minimal bits left for Driftcup next weekend now - car is going to Driftnuts on Tuesday to get all the side and rear windows clear vinyled and then just give it a clean and do something with this funky looking box...

So if you follow me on Instagram(#Chulme123) then you will have already seen what I'm about to share...

Driftcup Round 2 is done, and I gained a sponsor!

The box above had all of these goodies inside it!

IMG_20190503_153811-810x1080.jpg

I'm proud to say that I have acquired Kenda Tyres as my sponsor for the rest of the year! I have been in talks with them for some time and I am really happy that they have come onboard for this year! I look forward to receiving the KR20A and giving them a test!

Purchased a Gazebo aswell and got setup at Driftcup Round 2 at Norfolk Arena
IMG_20190510_150342-810x607.jpg

Had to do a few last minute window vinyl applications to ALL my windows as the company I sent it to couldn't do it. This was not comfy at all lying on a rollcage!
FB_IMG_1557820108288-810x1080.jpg
FB_IMG_1557820113023-810x1080.jpg

During the morning briefing all the cars were scrutineered and mine passed this time thankfully! Last time I got a B because not all of my side windows were vinyled(has to be done because its OEM glass and incase of a crash and it all smashes, it should go everywhere).
IMG_20190511_093409-810x1080.jpg

The morning was extremely wet! Headed out for a few practice laps in the wet.. due to the way Norfolk is laid out, we all had to queue in the pits and 2 of us went on at a time and did 2 laps, a lead and a chase.
IMG_20190511_103846_890-810x607.jpg

It was very difficult, my first 2 laps out were shakey but I managed none the less. Queued up for another 2 laps and by the time it came round the track had completely dried up - I went out and as I initiated I de-beaded my drivers rear tyre... I later found out that the tyre gauge I borrowed was reading wrong, so when I set my tyres to 18psi, it was actually 8psi! And running 225/45/17 on a 9.5j rim is a fair bit of stretch so no surprise they de-beaded! I was a bit concerned about how de-flated my tyre looked, even took a picture! But I didn't even think to double check with a different tyre gauge!
IMG_20190511_093646-810x1080.jpg

Qualifying came round and I was 2nd out on track due to my number, the way they decided to run qualifying was you went out and did your 2 runs back to back, this was due to ever changing weather conditions, me being the first out meant the track was completely soaked as it started raining as we got queued up for qualifying... by the time qualifying was over the track was completely dry!! Managed to lay down a decent 71 on my first run and 68 on my second run which put me in 3rd overall! Mega happy and meant I gained 1 extra championship point.
IMG_20190512_082154_817-810x454.jpg

Went through to my Top 32 battle against Josh Phillips in his E36 and I did a good lead run and a consistant chase run and I was awarded the win, I think he spun when I was leading so I got an advantage there...

Top 16 battle was against another E36, this time 1Uz Turbo powered. I put down a decent lead run, and a good chase run, but on my chase run, I spun just before the last clipping point due to a wet patch on the ground that I completely forgot about and tried going through on full throttle.. FFS!! Gave away the win and I was absolutely gutted!

Luckily this wasn't it, after the battles were done - there was a Team Comp that night which was really good fun! Me, Dan Collins(Has a build thread on here) and Hayden Edmonds teamed up to be #LowPowerPotatoes

We went out and had fun, we won our Top 16 battle but unfortunately got knocked out in the Top 8 by Team Japspeed(booooo)

IMG_20190512_115815-810x607.jpg

Overall I had a good weekend, I've found a few things I need to tweak:

Lower my bucket seat as my helmet bangs on the rollcage a bit
Change my gearbox to a 5 speed SR box, as I feel like with my current setup 2nd is too short and I'm loosing speed!
Fit adjustable rear tension rods and sort my toe curve out so that it is more stable and doesn't really change under compression.

For this weekend aswell, I tried a new setup using a helmet cam rather than mount it to my rollcage - I feel like it works a bit better and shows more? Let me know what you think...

Onboard below:

Also - I have been invited to take part in Drift Demo's at Castle Combe on 1st June - if you're in the area pop along and say Hi!

What gearbox are you running now??

IIRC the CA and SR boxes are near identical, I don't think the gear ratios are any different?
