Not so N/A S13 anymore...

I went drifting again... this time, last sunday at Teesside... I feel like I've drifted Three Sisters alot recently so wanted a change, and I also wanted to try the car at Teesside, as I haven't driven there with the turbo lump etc etc...

We had a lazy morning and didn't set off until like 8am, so didn't get to the track until 10am and then we had to unload etc, we were all signed up and on track by 10.30am, and quickly realised how spoilt we were at Three Sisters with no queues lol...

Spent most of the day on National(big track) trying to dial in my line as I know one of the upcoming Driftcup rounds is here, so I presumed they will be running the BDC/Driftcup line from last year.

Was going well, and Owen was chasing me in his 1UZ Mk1 Mx5, and then I hit the tyres at Clip 3 with my rear bumper a bit too hard...so it was flailing around...

Turns out it was in a few more pieces than it previously was
IMG_20190217_163651-1600x1200.jpg

and I also put a dent in the passenger rear pocket which will be knocked out
IMG_20190217_164811_908-1600x1200.jpg

I also had a few lead/chase runs with Bizz(LS Powered 350z - BDC Driver) - His car is mega fast and he also runs 265 Tri-ace tyres so I'm surprised I could keep up at all!

The rest of the time was just spent practicing my line, and the car works a treat! 3rd gear all round the bank and then into 2nd for the first hairpin, through to the 2nd hairpin then mid-way through the 2nd hairpin, shift up to 3rd and flat out and it just pulls!! I love it!

I do have onboard footage I need to go through and sort, I think this time though I'm not gonna make them as long, just pick a few of my best runs and throw them together...nowt special.

Overall had a cracking day, the car was flawless again and I can't wait to be out there again, might have been invited to do some more demo's at Three Sisters on 10th March so that will be fun! :dw:

IMG_20190217_164811_906-1600x1200.jpg

I also got sent this pic which I think is pretty cool, just the car sitting in the pits looking battered.
IMG_20190218_180541_829.jpg

Managed to condense all my footage into a 9 minute video, still a bit long for my liking but I like to put all my good runs on...

Also a few more pictures I've been tagged in from Shutter up taking a nice wide line around the first corner

Also on the lookout for a pair of 4x114 to 5x114 spacers!!

Hey up - another small update.

The trailer is now stored at a local storage place so it's not in the way on the drive anymore...
IMG_20190225_113335-1488x1984.jpg

Amy took this as an opportunity to fill the drive with the empty trailer gone...and she now has a 2nd drift car...(Mx5 is being sold if anybody is interested?)

Cracked on with my rear 5 stud swap - although it seems I made it slightly more difficult for myself than needed...

IMG_20190226_112941-1488x1984.jpg

Had to drill out my hubs so that they would accept 14mm splined shanks on the new extended studs
IMG_20190226_124513-1488x1984.jpg

Snapped a drill bit in the process - argh
IMG_20190226_132516-1488x1984.jpg

I also re-drilled my 4 stud discs to 5 stud, but made a bit of a hash of it so i'm not sure they will work properly, if needs be, i've now found out that I can buy stock R32 discs that will fit perfectly just 5 stud - so if mine don't work then I will buy a pair of them....

Big box turned up...

New helmet...

That's all for now folks

What model R32 rear discs are a straight swap?

Do Z32 discs not fit straight on?

Stock R32 GTS-T I would imagine - as they share stock brakes with an S13, and also have the internal drum handbrake

Z32 have bigger calipers/disks I would imagine being alot heavier car

I think those discs are vented mate, the S13 rear disc is solid so you'll have issues, unless you get the calipers to match.

but then who's doing that swap instead of R33 or Z32 rear calipers?

People fit vented discs onto normal cars everyday and don't seem to have issues so can't see it being a problem? unless you can explain how/why vented discs would cause a problem?

And I am that guy doing the swap retaining stock s13 brakes, I don't see the point in upgrading them as my car is only 280hp, I don't drive it fast on the road and when drifting I rarely use the brake anyway?

Stock discs are 9mm thickness, the vented ones are double that. It's a question of if there are pad clearance issues given the vented disc is twice as thick

If the pads can accept the larger disc then it's not going to be a problem

Ah got ya, didn't realise vented discs were thicker - although come to think of it now, I know what you mean

Over the moon!!

Managed to grab a season ticket for Driftcup 2019 out of only 40 available. And they sold out within minutes... Crazy...

To celebrate, here's a pic of me with a stack of tyres taller than me. This is what I'm running this year!

Awesome news mate! Sure you will do well. Did Amy sneak that little blue statue on the wall when you weren't looking?!

That fucking huge box didn’t just have a helmet in. Whats in the box.

Eh? I just have a big head pal!!

Haha it was one of the first things I made when I got the welder and its stayed there ever since lol, even through mega winds etc, it hasn't moved!

Finished the 5 stud swap(fitted adapter spacers to the front) and sorted a few niggly bits...

New wheels fitted - although it doesn't look as good as i'd expected, theres something I can't quite put my finger on, but I think if I lower the rear a tad and add a bit more front camber it'll look better :D
IMG_20190305_122606.jpg

Got the trailer all loaded and ready to go drifting at Three Sisters doing some demo's - Amy's Tiguan is amazing, it's a great daily car and also makes a rather comfy and quiet tow car whilst also retaining decent mpg(28mpg towing roughly)...
IMG_20190310_075904.jpg

Did many skids, in all sorts of weather, rain, snow, hail, sun - pretty much all seasons!

Had loads of fun with Alex in his JZX, He chased me, I chased him, it was love at first sight <3

FB_IMG_1552297676076.jpg

I also had Luke Barker do a few runs chasing me, and on one of them I tried to shift upto 4th coming out of the last corner, but it didn't go straight in, so he left a nice reminder on my door as to what happens when you don't shift properly lol...
IMG_20190310_151252_895.jpg

After this, There was some funky noises coming from the gearbox area/back of the engine, so called it a day and loaded up and went home..
IMG_20190310_151252_894.jpg

Got home and gave the car a wash(since we got home mega early) and also attempted to clean up the damage lol, bit of polish and some 800 grit sandpaper and a can of Arden Blue and Clear Lacquer...
IMG_20190310_182036.jpg

Driftcup is the 13/14th April - so need to see get my gearbox off and see what the damage is, I think I've destroyed 4th as there is loud rattling in 4th which I initially thought it was my engine!! Also gonna lower the rear and add some more camber upfront, and then give the car a general checkover and hopefully go and have some fun!!

Moving upto 17s aswell has made a huge difference, the car goes really well now and I can definately feel the grip increase, especially running Kenda KR20's, although the day was mostly wet, we also had a dry session as the track dried out really quickly, and the Kenda's wore really evenly aswell! Extremely impressed with them for the price, can't wait to run them all year!

I'm also yet to go through my on-board footage from the event, although I imagine you're all bored of watching Onboard Three Sisters as it's the only place i've been recently lol, apologies!

Onboard footage is up - I love chasing Alex in his JZX, also in the last clip you can hear when my gearbox decides to fall out with me...

So...

Bought a new gearbox, got that fitted, huge thanks to the lads down at AB Auto's for letting me use a ramp and also for helping pull the old one and put this one in! They are amazing!
IMG_20190319_211844-1984x1488.jpg

Also bought some Depo Racing Gauges(Oil Pressure and Oil/Water Temp), along with a D1 Racing Sandwich plate and 36mm ASH Water Temp Adapter

Got the sensors fitted to the sandwich plate and adapter before putting them in the car
IMG_20190325_105327-1488x1984.jpg

Then with some help from Lee & Amy, got the gauges wired and mounted in the car
IMG_20190325_123534-1984x1488.jpg

Tidied up the wiring to keep it out of the way as I didn't fancy drilling into my dash
IMG_20190326_120104-1488x1984.jpg

Sandwich plate and adapters fitted - all running and no leaks so far that I can see anyway! Perfect!
IMG_20190325_150405-1488x1984.jpg
IMG_20190325_161627-1488x1984.jpg

Also read through the Driftcup Rules & Regs again and noticed that I needed to fit Aerocatches to my bonnet as standard bonnet catches are not allowed anymore. Me and Amy had some fun fitting them....
IMG_20190324_105221-1984x1488.jpg

Also found out that my new helmet wasn't upto scratch either, so sent that back and have now bought a V2Sports SA2015 approved helmet which is fancy and is HANS approved just incase I need it next year!
IMG_20190325_170103-1984x1488.jpg

That get's us just about upto date, I'm supposed to be testing the car on Friday at Three Sisters for a few hours in the morning....but currently having issues with the clutch/gearbox in that the release bearing is making weird noises, and also struggling to get the car to go into reverse almost all the time...really annoying so will be doing some more investigations - trying to adjust the rod from the Master Cylinder to see if that makes a difference....other than that it's a box out job which I can't be bothered with!

Arghhhh Drift cars!

Designed a livery on Forza, and got it put onto the car a few weeks ago

Pink Chrome with a Grey Backing, I love it and feel like it's added a bit of spark to the car! Especially as it's just been plain blue for the last 2 years.

Will be working with Harry Adair this year and he will be covering my media for Driftcup

Oh, I also got a new front bumper aswell.
