Peeps with LOW drift cars, esp with hooj skirts- How do you jack yours up?

Get bigger bits of wood with long taper, I have 3" square fence posts and never had a car that can't be jacked up with them, keep it simples.
I toyed with air jacks etc when I built my car but binned the idea as I wanted to keep the car as light and as simple as possible.
I did weld plates in below the cage through the floor at the rear just in case I changed my mind (I havent yet :))

Talked to Mark Luney at the weekend about air jacks (350 has them but they have never been used) I commented "knowing my luck I would hit the wrong switch mid drift and jack the fekin car up !" oh how we laughted :wack:

Scotty- Thats the first thing I tried, as I do that every time and got tons of wood here, but due to the stupid kit and stupid lowness and stuff its the only car ive ever had where that wasnt piece of piss, hence asking if anyone had other ways!

Damn your BMW efficency, lol!

Another one here for the driving onto wood thing. I can't get a superlow jack under mine until i drive up onto the wood.

It's a very long taper, so it wouldn't matter how low your skirts were, as the wheels raise the height of the car the further you drive onto them

I use 3ft long ramps to get a jack under the R32s. All of which I can't get a jack under the sides.. I can't get a jack under the sills on the GTR! :D

Yep,

Topi and Mike and me are all talking about the same thing. I even have a paddle thing made up like the BMW one !!

LOL at the airjack button drift crash scenario !! It would only happen if you also had an onboard compressor which is usually something you keep in the garage !!

If your car is sooooooo low that you cant get a fencepost long enough or a shallow enough cut - which I can understand as the orange wont go up any normal ramps onto a trailer - then you can get a scaffold board and just keep layering extra pieces of scaffold board that fit under the bumper and are the right distance that the wheel just climbs up them before hitting the next one..........screw them togetther and hey presto one DIY ramp !! 4 boards = over 4" of lift !!...........

Hope this diagram makes sense !!

The trouble is, although super long chocks are the obvious way and we making some for home use...
...I will be driving the car to and from events, and RX7s are fucking small, Im not sure if I will even 4 wheels and tyres in the car, so 3ft long chocks are pretty much out the question.

Its cool though, plenty of options here, I'd worked out some less than ideal ways to suit me for now, and soon as I can ill order that built-in jack thingy as that takes no room

i use the standard front tow hooks either side of the intercooler ... but i take off my front bumper ... but its only 6 zip ties ....

and i jack from the diff for the rear no need to remove back bumper ... all this using standard halfrauds jack ...

all this may not help but i dont care i wanted to share it with you :D

if any1 needs some sort of custom jack system/ sill jacking points etc made and installed its something im used to doing. used to do lots of grp4 escorts with the plates/tubes in the sills.

which I can understand as the orange wont go up any normal ramps onto a trailer

Reminds me of the rolling road day you attended at BB tuning years ago, Spent about 40 minutes trying to get orange off trailer (carving a nice deep rut in the mud with the towing eye) to be told it won't get over the rollers due to the angle you have to go in at.

I seem to remember your solution was to do a stinking great burnout in the unit while the rest of us pushed it round :smash:

How is the front bumper mounted? If it's on two bolts/zip ties then its not much hassle to remove it each time you need to jack it - thats what I did with the SX.

what about something like this excuse the shitty paint diagram

peiceofshitdiagram.jpg

under b is a pivot which when the car is rolled onto the a ramp it pivots down so you drive up onto the curve so it sits underneath the wheel you would be able to jack it up enough to get a axle stand under it foook knows if it will work but never try never find out :)

im helping a buddie put a bee-r 324 kit on his 32 at the moment and that has massive huge shirts. there are two open sections on the underneath of the skirts at the regular front and rear jacking points. the skirts are about two inches lower than the sill so we will weld a 2 inch box section onto the sill so that (If) and when you can roll your low jack under the skirts it will then immediatly be jacking the car rather than going up to the sill and crushing the skirt.
the metal is basically level with the bottom of the skirt.

what would be the best air jacks to use? i hear a lot of range rovers would have useable air jacks

That is super cool !

im going to make some of them :smash:

e36's have the holes in already for the stock jack to slide into. You can buy this little paddle to slot in and provide an external jacking point.

I know you dont have the holes currently but thought it might help if you go that way.

I cannot.... fucking... believe... that there is a thread on here asking how to jack up the Sexy Knights FC.

The all knowing Stavros of a million projects and all that amazing engine and technical knowledge can't even jack up his own car.

Does anybody else think this is easily the funniest post in the history of driftworks?

Get two blocks of wood and a jack under the diff! People have been doing since god was a boy. How can you not know this?

Sorry to sound harsh people but after all the shit that gets spouted on this (and other) forums by a "certain person", this really is the cherry, ontop of the icing on the cake.

You REALLY think it would be three pages long if thats ALL it was about, you mouthy dickhead?

Ive had this car up in the air loads, ive changed wheels F+R, diff oil, all sorts, I can do it.

BUT its a pain in the arse, even under the diff its a pain in the arse, I wanted a fast way, a good way, like on every other car ive had.

It more of a pain than any other car ive had, so I was asking if anyone with similarly ridiculous cars has solutions and lo and fucking behold they had similar grief and GOOD solutions, hence the 3 page thread full off good stuff (And two complete penis replies from the two usual suspects).

And FYI, its NOT safe to jack off the diff on some cars, even if you could reach it easy (and even Flick says its a cunt to do that on his car too), so you feel free to blindly do that, ive seen diff casings crack by doing this with my own eyes, so wouldnt automatically assume thats a wise thing to do...

But cheers for being a prick and not reading the thread, just jumping in to try and abuse me like a big man on the net, as ever.

And with that im off on Holiday for two weeks
aaahhhh thankyou...

At the last westonzoyland event julians car fell onto james bull because it was jacked up on the diff, its not a good place to jack from, cars will fall off of the diff. stav do you hav a side pic of your car so we can see how low? I also find it difficult to jack up my car.

At least when someone writes into Redline asking this question you'll have an answer for them :)

PS - 10000th post of wisdom!
