The HOLSET Thread

Unless you planning to put it on as fucking massive engine that turbine housing is useless, way way too big, will spool like shit as its way bigger than even the compressor.

75mm compressor inlet says its old as it's not even got a ported shroud inlet.

Actually, jus done some work for you, and according to my Holset parts program thing on this laptop it's a early 80s (pre 85 anyhow) Holset H2C off a few different Leyland (and Volvo once Volvo took em over) busses and trucks. 11ltr 260bhp diesels.

Regarding the flange, a lot of Holsets ran what is T4 size but with of the holes slightly further spaced. A T4 flange with elongated holes works fine.

H2Cs have about a 62mm inducer compressor, so it's probably good for a good 700bhp probably. Bigger than a HX40, smaller than a HX50, older than all the HX series.

What turbo is mine on the core it has (holset 3530538) but searched and cannot find anything. It originally had a 18cm housing but recently had a 16cm but i broke the cast. I'm now after a 14cm I think I'm going to purchase new just need more info on my turbo

My engine is a rb30 with a rb26 head is a 14cm too small ?

Wardy- Holset H1C from a early 90s Dodge Ram I think mate. Depends what power you want. A 14 is ok, very responsive. 12s have been proven at about 600bhp on 2ltrs.

Mestew- Sounds a good call, RS35s and all other 12cm or so HX35s seem perfectly suited on all the 1Js and RB25s ive seen em on.

I'm sorry that I need to write here too, but I couldn't find any informations on the internet:

I've planed to buy an Borg Warner S366 Bulseye for my 1JZ, to get 675HP at the backwheels. But I just want to use a Holset, just to prove the guys in germany that they are fantastic. So for what should I go?
E85 with 1200cc injectors
Head will get 264" cams or when I find some money 272" cams with titanium springs
big inlet mani with 90mm body.

I'm looking for great response and a turbo which can hold the power high to 8,500rpm.

I'd be happy with anything around 600 mark but with only a 6800 rev limit, I want some good response I know I will have plenty of torque it's just what housing to go for?

675 at the rear wheels? Something big and lots of boost. I'd use a HX52 personally. Spool fucking fast for their size.

Wardy- 600bhp is pushing the limits of a H1C regardless of housing mate, might be more than it can do full stop depending what wheel it has. Only times HX35s or H1Cs (Very similar wheels, H1C is a older version of a HX35) ever push the 550-600bhp mark is on 2ltrs pushing way over 35psi boost.

Update on my HY35 on an SR20DET, i got it mapped in late decmber.

Off gas, it makes a very safe 385bhp. Although made over 400bhp on a couple of power runs.

With nitrous oxide it made one power run of 436bhp, but then the fuel to the solenoid sprung a nasty leak so gas got switched off and safe map made for boost only. Boost is 1.2bar.

Dex- If it's an ok spec, small enough exhaust housing etc, it's fine if it's cheap.
Sam- 385bhp at 1.2bar is fucking badass! A lot of power for not a lot of boost.

So its safe to use a 38mm wastegate on a HX35 for a 1J to get around 450bhp.

I found these, anyone used them before and is this too big.
Precision Turbo 46mm Wastegate, 1-25 psi, BRAND NEW! FREE SHIPPING! | eBay

Yeah it's not about how much power your running.. It's more to do with how much exhaust gas your letting vent out.

And yeah the Precision wastegates are nice.. But sod spending that much on a wastegate.. I know they are cheap compaired to jdm parts but they are still 3x what a new eBay one costs.. I know the eBay ones last a good couple of years too so I'll just keep an eye out for a good quality secondhand one when one comes up.

Lads I'm looking for some advice on a turbo, not a holset but stav will probably have the answer anyway. Im lookin at a Borg Warner S256. All the info I have on it is it's t2/t3 flanged, it's 7 blade and 0.50 A/R.

It's for a 1jz and is a replacement for hks 2835. Will it be very laggy? Are they reliable etc? Any info much appreciated.

Do you think a HX40 with these sizes:
wheel inducer: 54mm
exducer: 82mm
turbine wheel
inducer: 64mm
exducer:76mm
is capable of pushing 675 to the rear wheels? I can get one for a bargain..

Not really, no.

Even a best spec HX40 will only do 700@fly (what's 675@wheels? About 750bhp?) at BIG boost, a 54mm inducer is what a HX35 usually has, not a HX40, so you'll be lucky to hit 600@fly.

i want to try a holset on my BMW m50/m52 engine that im building but not sure what one to go for.

spec is m50 with m52 internals CR 8.67:1
my manifold has to run a t4 flange so does anyone know what holset i need to get and where to get one from?

at the moment im running m50 with standard internals so 2.5l running 434bhp at 1.5bar
turbo spec Compressor wheel: .70A/R, Turbine wheel: .68A/R

cheers
steve
