So i got my arms back from my old man after he pressed in the new ball joints and bushes for me.
Also in other news I’ve bought a turbo. From the start i wanted a GTX3076 gen2 however this came up at a grand less than a new garret and this has done next to no miles. Its a bernie blowers hybrid gt3076 with a gtx compressor wheel, on a 0.64ar rear housing so should come on nice and early.
So i should have that soon.
So i booked Ed a hotel and we had a 2 dayer on the car this weekend just gone. Hit it hard and put around 55 man hours into it over the 2 days. Which made a nice step in the right direction. I unfortunately didnt take millons of photos because i was more set on making progress. So whilst Ed set to work re making the rear pockect and rear tub. I set to work putting the gussets into the cage.
Trimmed everything and marked my welds up. I was nervous about this because they are probably some of the most seen welds on the cage so i wanted them too look as nice as they could with a MIG so i did some practice welds to get the welder set on some spare tube and a spare gusset.
Once i was happy i welded the gusset into the car.
It came out ok so i repeated the same on the other side then chucked some primer over them both.
So that was 1 job ticked off.
Whilst i was welding these in Ed had cut some pannels for the rear and was waiting for the welder so made a start on removing the old tubs i did ages ago, too small, like a twat, that i am still not over haha.
So i chucked him the welder and finished cutting the tubs out myself.
In the fucking bin. Pieces of shit.
Once Ed had the rear tacked up i set to welding whilst he finished the tidying up of the front tub removal.
Then i treated it all with magic anti rust and aids potion, primered it and called it another job done.
Excellent. Then i started on what i thought would be the quick job of mounting up seats. I chopped the standard seat mount out. Then Chucked a side mount onto the seat. Then bolted the weld on brackets onto them and dropped it in the car.
After a lot of head scratching and figuring put we managed to get some tacks on some things so i could actually sit in it an get the seat where i wanted. After a bit more head scratching and 3 hours of my life im never getting back it was welded into the car.
What a pain in the dick that was. So we decided we had had enough and went to the hotel
The state of the unit when we left should give you a rough idea of the day we had haha.
Onto day 2. First things first. We got IDC on the ipad linked to the sound system in the unit for entertainment for the day.
I set to work mounting up the passenger seat whilst Ed started remaking the front tubs.
I quickly realised that due to the exhaust tunnel on the passenger side of the car i was going to struggle to mount the passenger side the same way as the driver side. Thats when i rememberd my friend Ash had a basemount bride seat mount in his garage a mile away from my unit. So i got him to bring it up. I bolted it in and sat the seat ontop and it was going to work mint. I just had to modify the skinny boy bride mount to take my fat fuck seats.
Its a bit agricultural but it works. I cut 2 wide pieces of 4mm, mounted it to the seat. Dropped that ontop of the rail bolted into the car. Tacked it on. Took it all out and welded it up fully.
Nice and hot and solid. I chucked some primer and matt black over it, almost looked factory, if you squint.
But i mounted the passenger side in a reasonable place so that was good.
Meanwhile Ed had pretty much got 1 tub all tacked up.
Much more intelligent sized. It looks so much better than the mk1 aids i welded in originally. So we made and end pannel and i set to work welding it up whilst Ed started on the drivers side.
They still need dressing back but they take a surprising amount of time to weld in nicely.
Ed had got the drivers side starting to look like a tub.
Then he asked me to tack some bits in from under the car. It was at this point i started to realise Ed is sick of my poor life choices.
So we got an end pannel tacked in and Ed headed home after 2 days of being a fuckimg hero and i stayed and welded up the drivers side tub.
As i started welding the top i ran out of gas so i need to go back and finish the welding.
We have made the pannels bigger to make welding easier. Obviously it all needs dressing and trimming up.
So i put some primer on the tubs, tidied up the workshop and took some photos for the Gram haha.
I am so pleased with what we got done this weekend. Yet again a massive thanks to Ed and his dedication in helping me with this car.
We genuinely only have probably 2-3 more days of welding. To do. Just need to do the tubs between the strut and the fire wall. Then the chassis rails, then the welding will be done.
I am starting to see light at the end of the tunnel with the welding. Especially as the car is starting to resemble a preped shell. So happy.
Thanks for taking the time to read my drivel. Also thank you to everyone for the feedback so far. Its really appreciate.
