do's and donts of the legend sr20det

Just put rocker stoppers in!!!! They do no harm only good. Would be one ofthe first things i would do to an sr before using it for drifting.

gotta agree,,, again- doing it in the 180sx.

for ~50quid + only 2minutes extra time fitting (as you are gonna remove the rocker cover and clean the spray bars out anyway... :smash:) its worth it imo

really happy with where this thread is going one main thing seems to be cleaning spray bars on an "unknown" engine anybody got pics and how to's??

here is the spec on my sr as i bought the car let me know what your opinions are..

bare in mind its for the track only
rebuilt around a year ago(no reciepts but i can see fresh gasket sealer in places you wouldnt usually also engine is very clean even above gearbox places you caould only reach by having it out)..

acl bearings
arp head bolts
s15 turbo
s15 injectors
stock ecu unknown on the mapping situation previous owner used it a handful of times
tomei pon cams adj pulleys
manual boost controler running .8 bar
hpi large front mount
aluminium rad + elec fan
oil cooler + filter relocater
m's k&n air filter
fuel cell in boot
swirl pot
braided fuel lines
bosch 044 fuel pump and feed pump from an aeroplane lol

runs good feels very strong very respnsive d say at least 280bhp.smokes 3rd gear on 10.5j work meister s1 wheels not the lightest..

what i would like to get soon
z32 afm
apexi power fc
remap.
elec boost controller
run 1 bar or 1.1 watever is safest..
fuel pressure rerulator

my ideal setup
garret gt2871r .86 rear housing(laggy but good thump)

or trust td06

550cc injectors (bigger if needs be)
z32 afm
apexi power fc
remap.
elec boost controller
run safe boost
fuel pressure rerulator

spray bar cleaning guide:

[ame=http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?p=3096648#post3096648]Fitting rocker cover and changing spray bars - SXOC Bulletin Board[/ame]

you chucked it on a dyno to check the AFR if you aint got a wideband AFR gauge? with the s15 injectors and cams there must be some kind of map "board" or on a fuel controller?

your engine bay makes my OCD kick in bad. i think you may need to start with the very basics... "a clean and tidy engine is a happy engine"

and get a viscus fan shroud.... they aid cooling :)

and mitto you gay. check your pm's ;)

lol its all stripped out now and swapped into the s15 so il be leving that bay nice and tidy yea i need t purchase a shroud alright

Cool, rocker arm stoppers are on my list now, when I order from DW later this week :smokin: oil change required when you fit them right? Anything special fitting to a JDM s15 sr20det?

Only different rocker cover, different coil packs, different injectors (bigger pos 480's? can't confirm) and t28r on some of the models

you have to grind away a bit of the rocker cover on the inside. fairly painless, you just have to make sure you clean it properly after!

check my for sale thread...

read the question.

Yeh, lol I know the differences with the s15 vs s14/a engines, I was wondering if it was different in regards to fitting RAS :wack:

Thanks mitto

If anyone is fitting a set of RAS to their mota then if its not tooo much trouble maybe add some close up pics to this thread please seeing as its become very interesting to read as Im sure it is for everyone else...

FPR are useless, you are not tuning a 1940 american V8 with carbs, you have a wonderful ECU capable of doing many things, including setting a fuel map ... Forget the power FC too unless you are planning for big power (say 600HP+), a nistune will cost less and will be easier to use. And you will need AFR/EGT gauge and sensors to map this anyway, VEMS makes a combo i think. Z32 AFM will require immediate remap and may be needed, s15 sr20 AFM is good for around 290-300hp.

I am not sure 550cc injectors will be enough, but it depends if you plan on not upping the boost more than 1 bar or not. If you think you will one day, get bigger ones. Just dont buy venoms, they are shite. RC-engineering sells nice working ones. You can also get some from sard, siemens and so on, they will be more expensive though.

Forget the gt2871r if you plan to run 1bar ... these will give 1.4-1.6 bar easily (but i would not run this boost on an unopened SR)

Remember step 1 : learn/understand how an engine works. Dont just add parts because people tell you they work. Instead of using the rev limiter, why wouldnt you map the ignition with a lot of retard to prevent the engine from revving ? Much nicer than bouncing off the rev limiter (but will create more heat, always a tradeoff). And it will save the cost of buying rocker stoppers (if the rockers starts to float, they will mash the valves and cam lobes anyway)

yea, plus i doubt the difference in ron will make a massive difference in output for the average SR20 anyway

2 points will not change much. but e85 is 104-105 octane :wack: (and cheap here... 95 is around 1.35€/L, 98 is 1.45€/L, e85 is ... 0.75 - 0.85€/L). I could get around 20 more hp just by using e85 (and remaping of course) on my CA, as it allowed to use insane ignition timing and more boost without ever detonating (around 10° more than what i could use before with sp98 while on the verge of DET. I even upped it more but it was not worth it. and still no DET... so sticked to a "conservative setting" which would kill the engine if not running on e85 )
