Jordan's S13 Silvia ♠️♠️

All the right bits and pieces going in there :p

S-chassis love... 2 steps forward, 1000 steps back :p

Yeah, can't wait for the end result, just need to keep persevering and ill get there eventually :p

Went and collected my new gearbox yesterday with a friend, was nice to have a road trip for car parts with a friend for once :) Apart from the fact it took almost 4 hours to get from Bristol to Manchester but suppose that was kinda my fault for picking friday afternoon straight after uni haha.

The new gearbox :) :) :) (Had to pinch the guy's picture as I forgot to take one of the box itself ;) Just imagine this without the adapter plate on it)

For those that dont know, its a 2005 350z Gearbox. Supposedly as strong as the Toyota V160 boxes, but for me the fact its stronger than RB boxes makes it a winner in my eyes :)

The important code, the faded "CD009" and "AZQ" confirms its the CD009 version of the box, aka the ones that have triple syncro's :)

Another confirmation is the CDO#2 stamp on both the bell housing and inside;

The box seems smooth, no nasty noises or movements when rotating or changing gear which kinda helps show the box is as good condition as the seller (59bhp) described :thumbs: It supposedly has 50/60k on it which is even better :)

Havent done much on the car, having returned back to Uni for my final year the first week has been a bit hectic with my timetable and getting comfortable again with the workload.

Had to turn the car around today, so grabbed some pictures of how its currently sitting;

Sorry for the terrible write up, currently feeling like absolute sh*te at the mo! Fingers crossed next weekend we can continue with the tubs, I'm hoping a friend can swap the balljoints over in my rear lower arms and I can fit my DW LCA bushes at the same time :) Soooo when thats done I can think about building the rear subframe back up ready to go on the car :)

Ive had these beautiful things waiting to go on the car for a while now too ;)

I also now need to explore what release bearing combo I'm going for, as I've been offered a Quartermaster Tri-Lite hydraulic release bearing for a very tempting price. So I either need to research exactly how to install a hydraulic release bearing or fingers crossed Greg @ Protuner will get back to me with more details about his adapter plate, so he can confirm what release bearing he used when doing his personal conversion with his own adapter plate. To top it all off, the shifter mechanism needs to be shorted so I either need a new bracket from the states or get the OEM one shortened.

Hoping to get more updates either mid-week or next weekend :)

Mate, those 350z boxes are beast!! I remember seeing my friend's box apart when his zed was in the workshop :o

Haha, gotta love uni, takes way too much time away from important things :p

haha uni is so fun though :p

Yeah the boxes are huge compared to the standard small case nissan boxes in our s-bodies. Ive pinched the pictures below to show the sheer size difference in the gears alone!

How come you didn't buy 59bhp's adaptor plate? Is protuner's one different and how so? I was looking Into this for my 15 but there didn't seem to be that much info or Experiance of the conversion in this country, so I dicided the best option was to just keep blowing 6 speeds haha.

Nice build what u doing with the shell when u finish stripping it for parts

After speaking with Greg a lot about mapping, he mentioned his plate was an improved version of Maverick Motorsport's plate in the US. Greg mentioned he's added dowels in the plate to support the box, as well as including studs for the starter, which means if I need to change the starter it won't be a gearbox off kind of job? Plus, he's not too far away from me and sure does know his stuff, finger crossed he can guide me on what needs to be done. If I remember correctly, he's used his plate on his own PS13 so should know exactly what needs to be done :)

The plan is a friend may have it off me, or option b if I can still store it, is to rebuild it eventually and keep it as a more street friendly car. But that's only a dream at the mo, I'd rather concentrate on the PS and build it towards my vision :)

So in-between uni I pressed the new DW bushes into the lower arms, relatively straight forward using nothing else other than a vice :) Managed to give them a quick coat in a satin black aerosol, just something to tidy them up a tad :thumbs:

A friend came and save the day as he usually does, and did me the massive favour of swapping the balljoints over. Some people say a hammer works but Ive never had much joy.

Brand new rear Moog joints fitted a treat! fingers crossed i'll be building up the rear subframe tomorrow ready to go onto the Silvia.

I mentioned earlier on in the thread about having to change the ignition barrel, and didnt fancy having 2 keys for 1 car, so swapped the door locks over;

Relatively simple task, much easier than I imagined which is handy to know. Gave my old locks a good coating in WD40 to ease them a tad as the drivers lock always started to get harder to turn. All seems well now though :thumbs:

Its this kind of time where I get a bit bored, so threw my Grip Royal steering wheel, mainly to see if it fitted the boss that came with the car, and well it looks pretty so it'll keep me happy for a few minutes ;) Ive used this wheel for agesssss now, but absolutely love it! It was originally black, but somehow has managed to fade a really weird but nice bronze/copper/black colour, i'll try and grab some proper pictures in the daylight to show you guys.

As I forgot last time, heres the obligatory gearbox photo ;)

Threw the standard S13 shifter on that came in my hatch many many years ago, just to feel what shifting in the box is like. Seems pretty smooth which is goooood, but i'll fully inspect the box when I pull the bell housing off. Still waiting on a part to come in before I can reveal something specialllll ;) ;)

Why 350z box I thought they suffer with synchro mesh being abit week

The early model's do suffer with bad syncro's :) However, the CD009 box is the one which has triple syncro's as a part of Nissan making numerous revisions to the box, these tend be found in 350's between '05 and '06/07, nobody knows when they started or stopped so the serial numbers and stamps are the only things to go by to confirm the type of box.

Suspension arms are looking good.

Nothing special, just making everything a bit cleaner to work with :)

Made some progress today, my rear subframe is now on with the PBM knuckles :) They looked too good to even put on the car :'(

Out of curiosity (and temptation), how much would you flog the old shell for?

The old shell will more than likely be going to a friend dude, something he can chew over winter. If he doesn't want it in the end, i'll send you a PM :thumbs:

So as mentioned, I spent this afternoon building up my rear subframe with the fresh new lower arms, rear drop knuckles and generally trying to tidy everything a bit.

Started off by getting the Silvia's arse end high in the air, kinda thought this angled looked cool;

Kind of like some old school lowrider :wack::smokin:

Anyway,

Installed everything back onto the subframe, with the new PBM knuckles looking far too good to use on the car, they're so b-e-a-utiful!!

JUST LOOK AT THEM :smash:

When you're on your own, how else do you move a subframe :wack:

Quickly whipped the standard rear subframe off in no time at all, suppose it was only held in by 2 nuts for transportation purposes :wack:

Gave me another opportunity to look underneath the rear end. Good to see everything is as fresh as I first saw it, something positive to take away which makes a change!

Theres a patch which needs to be undersealed;

But, seeing as the car is going nowhere soon, I'll do that when I re-underseal the car so everything is nice and fresh before it hits the track.

Still can't get over how much I love the look of the knuckles! Cant wait to get the 2nd set of callipers on whenever I have a chance to find some, dual calliper setup should look cool as! Oh yeah, and should give me a spot on handbrake :thumbs:

Considering I was on my own, it took no time at all to get the rear subframe on. I think anyone who tried to put a subframe with solid bushes on the first time can appreciate what an utter sh*te job it can be :(

Re-adjusted my rear coilovers to roughly where they sat on my 13, just to see how the rear end would sit. Didn't want to spend too much time adjusting the ride height as these coil overs will be for sale soon as I may have an opportunity to get a fresh pair elsewhere. Anyway, when I saw the height was like so in the air, it had to be low ;)

On the floor;

The PBM knuckles give a true 25mm drop which helped to get this low, the Apex Gen 2 coil overs still have an inch and a bit to go, so plenty of room to go lower still. :smoking:

For those wondering about the fitment, I havent even touched the alignment, theres a fair bit of negative camber which will be dialled out to around -0.5* when I'm done to try and get some grip dialled in. Also, theres no rear brake disc on at the mo so that should add a fair few mm fitment wise :smash:

I'll be looking at a further half inch ish drop when I finalise the ride height, just so statically it'll tuck a bit of rim but under squat it'll tuck alot more, maybe even just scrape the skirt if I can. Ya'know, being a cool kid and all.

Tried to get another picture just to capture the colour of the centre of my steering wheel <3

Only mildly tempted as need something fun to take my mind off the arse ache that is restoring my bug for me to learn to drive in.
Me and the old man would love a toy haha.

Looking good though, I'm usually not a huge fan of PS's but yours is looking like i just might

Loving how clean the shell is. Underseal it quick lol

Yeah, that was main reason for a re-shell. I doth have the time or resources to keep fighting rust in a UK shell so made sense to start of with a clean shell as base, ready for the future :)

haha, I hope you like this one. Its going to be pretty badass to say the least :p if he doesn't want it dude, i'll drop you a PM :)

So, got the ride height at a cool level yesterday, and by midnight I sold the coil overs :wack: The plan was to get some fresh coil overs in a months time but saw a user was after some and messaged him on the off chance. So, new coilovers have been ordered and bank balance once again reduces haha.

Jordan what are you planning to do it the engine? Keep the sr20det and give him some flavor?

It'll be getting some flavour for sure! All will be revealed soon, just waiting on a part to come in before I want to say anything :)
