So having gone through the "I've got to pull out stage" I asked a load of people who I've known to have CA shell failures to see what goes and bought big end bearings on the monday, Dropped sump again on Tuesday (getting the hang of it at this point). Bearings arrive on Wednesday, fire them in. crank looked good, could probably have done with a polish but I literally just wanted them to last driving at STL.
All back together, washed ready for STL.
Leave the car loaded up ready to go for a month, fly up the Wednesday night, fill up with fuel, down to DL Thursday morning.
Went out for a 5 minute session, shit was going good. I was really disappointed with how shite my initiations looked from the outside at AB so decided I really had to push myself. Did a couple opposite flicks towards the wall and was building confidence with the initiations.
Came in and got a couple photos with Josh for my 35mm project @northernkith.
Went back out with Josh to try and get photos together. I end up having to wait then once he caught up i put my foot down to pick up speed for initiating, no power. Look at the boost controller 0. Then BANG turbo dies.
Only one thing to do when your CA's die.
Long story short - Stuart from Garage SR was a legend and drove down from Aberdeen with a load of spares for people as everyones cars were breaking and took a T28 for me to get home. Camped and barely slept in a tent that was leaking water in to fuck. Got up wanting to just get home, rushed fitting the turbo and ended up not tightening the oil feed to turbo. this delayed me getting home fucking loads and was so fed up. Got home and there was a slight rumble coming down from revs to idle.
Did what anyone would do in my situation...
I did come into a couple of problems with the swap. Main one being this.
Flywheel bolt stripped in the crank. Luckily I was able to re-tap it and used Green loctite on all the bolts to ensure they weren't gonna fuck off.
Gisken OS twin plate wouldn't fit the SR so went with a competition clutch stage 4.
Also whilst all that shite was out i decided to finally do an intercooler tuck.
SR in.
Went to bolt up exhaust and discovered why the CA elbows changed with SR's. Gave me motivation to do something I'd been wanting to do for a while anyway.
Ignore the shite welds, Welder was being a pain in the dick.
"Finished"
Heres where the fun began, Wouldn't start. Two reasons, fuel lines wrong way around and No spark. Norfy was a fuckin godsend helping me out with it. Troubleshooting lack of spark managed to fix it somehow as the next day it turned over and started. Then died. Measuring 8v at the coilpack plug decide its weak spark causing it, trace the wire looking for breaks or anything. No deals, back to London.
No idea why I thought of it cause the problem didn't not seem like an AFM at all but got my dad to unplug the AFM and start - fires up and keeps running. Plugs in the AFM - dies. Ask him to check part number - S14 AFM. I managed to somehow mix up my AFM's during the shed being a mess with the CA coming out and SR going in.
Bit of a shit end to the update but aye, getting my S13 AFM back in and it will be good to go when I'm back at Christmas.
