Keeve's Lowstyle S13

Managed to tie in a Driftland day with a wedding up north. Full outer reverse. Some vibe throwing your car in towards the wall at that speed with "If anything goes wrong I'm fucked" flying through your head every time. Didn't help I had blown a shaft on the way down the road as well which was clicking like fuck.
Three clips of the layout, was desperately trying for third gear but it just wouldn't take it with the 3:9 diff. Managed to fit my 4:1 last night to save more limiter shaming.

Out to Martin Woods, Connor from T-Works, Russel from Dori Labs and John Arnott for the pictures.

More pics emerging from Sunday. Quite humbled to have had this amount of photo's! Thanks to Beasy, Fraser Jones and EyeRed.

It's because you aren't a £500 BMW and you can actually drive! *That isn't a dig at the £500 BMW drivers*

You might need to re-secure your wing there too Keeve...

What's left on the list for Awesomeboss prep: Spats, Spoiler, Tints?
You gonna paint your rear bumper?

Haha cheers, yeah it was pretty short on non-bmw's there on sunday. Only took about 3 pictures on the Mamiya :(

I sheared a bolt on the lower wing one day cause I'm a clown and didn't realise my ratchet switched direction. It only pops out on full lock and normally goes back into place just it got snagged on something on this run.

Aye its all cosmetic stuff really apart from the PAS issue, last thing to swap that it can be is the pump though. Going to buy 5l of paint and blow over the bumpers, arches, spats, skirts then fit the tints. Half toying with the idea of selling up for the next thing but this is so reliable I don't know if I can let go.

AH! That makes sense! At least saves you from "Drake Fitment"

Nah, keep it dude.

I was speaking to Doug about something similar yesterday, it's been plenty of reliable, just keep it and make it nice :)
You can drive the shit out of it and it seems to handle it just fine!

Done loads but can't be arsed going over the boring shit.

Package from Japan arrived when I got back from London.

Fired on 215/40/R17 Federal RSR's as I haven't been chewing through the Nankangs so they should be safe(ish) then banged them on with 5mm spacers all round.

Stared re-wiring my Passenger arch loom when it started pishing rain. No borr.

Did some tintingz

Finally welded up an exhaust tip thats not been bodged out of bits and pieces from an old exhaust.

Eagle eyes have probably noticed panels changing colour up until now. Well aye.

Colour match is slightly off but will do Doors etc soon, everything else is done.

Put on Kouki Spats at Awesomeboss.

Removed Kouki Spats at Awesomeboss.

Had a light tap with Pete coming in hot to the bottom corner when a car was just trundling on so I panicked and spun.

Driving home from AB I noticed my car was struggling to boost. Then the exhaust started hitting Everything.

Went under to check for damage.

Cheers ya dick. Til next time I'm home.

So aye did the Awesomeboss thing. Finished painting on the Thursday night. Went to polish and cut the paint on Friday but was still soft.

Got there and got to briefing for infield and then full outer. Long story short I drove shite on Saturday. Not down to conditions or "this and that is wrong" I was just shite. Down to the point where I almost binned the front of the car into the wall cause I threw it in on a wet patch of the track, hit dry, then it flicked me towards the wall, scuffed it with the exhaust when I was spinning. Started getting a bit more on it on full outer then come Sunday I was fully on it along with everyone else which made for fun chases/follows.

Enough shite video footage:

Pictures:
(Almost binning it)

Been a while so going to do a bit of an update. Have stopped taking photos of shit as I've kind of lost interest in detailing everything i'm doing.

Couple more Awesomeboss content:

So after awesomeboss, Dropped sump. Replaced with a spare from a mate.

Absolute cunt of a job with the engine in and never wanted to do it again.

Went back to London. Had my old boy start it to keep it from sitting and move it back and forth. Got back up the road start it, tapping like fuck from the head. Been sitting for a couple weeks so gave it a couple minutes to clear, still nothing. Go to turn off the engine - oil pressure is 0.

Check oil, nothing. Put some in, ran it, tapping stops. Head under the car to see fresh oil pissing out the front of the sump. Sump I replaced was porous. Annoying as i hit it with the wire brush and examined it to be sure it was solid. Engine wasn't knocking. Avoided catastrophe. Swapped in a GOOD sump. Filled with oil. Happy.

Did the whole MOT thing, Flew through apart from a couple missing bolts from ARB, Faded Fog light and sticker on front window.

Discovered the correct pitch/thickness studs to extend the rear and finally get on 16mm spacers to the rear works.

Also, finally found a cusco Dash dodger for a sunroof model. Fired it in.

After the no oil pressure problem I wanted a guage that would beep if there was a problem so replaced the stack guages. interior taking shape.

Was sick of tripping up over the exhaust all the time and tbh it was a tad too long for the style of my car so cut it down to be flush with the end of the rear bumper.

I was invited to take part in Ali's Street Track Life event after Awesomeboss, was a no brainer that I was going to drive at that. So I took a week off work at the start of september for getting the car all sorted ready for the event I was just going to leave it ready to fly back up from London, jump in car and go.

Tidying up after the first job for STL on the monday I find this in the bottom of the old sump...

Absolutely raging that the bottom end was wrecked from running with no oil I was about to pull out of driving at STL.

But fuck that.

So having gone through the "I've got to pull out stage" I asked a load of people who I've known to have CA shell failures to see what goes and bought big end bearings on the monday, Dropped sump again on Tuesday (getting the hang of it at this point). Bearings arrive on Wednesday, fire them in. crank looked good, could probably have done with a polish but I literally just wanted them to last driving at STL.

All back together, washed ready for STL.

Leave the car loaded up ready to go for a month, fly up the Wednesday night, fill up with fuel, down to DL Thursday morning.

Went out for a 5 minute session, shit was going good. I was really disappointed with how shite my initiations looked from the outside at AB so decided I really had to push myself. Did a couple opposite flicks towards the wall and was building confidence with the initiations.

Came in and got a couple photos with Josh for my 35mm project @northernkith.

Went back out with Josh to try and get photos together. I end up having to wait then once he caught up i put my foot down to pick up speed for initiating, no power. Look at the boost controller 0. Then BANG turbo dies.

Only one thing to do when your CA's die.

Long story short - Stuart from Garage SR was a legend and drove down from Aberdeen with a load of spares for people as everyones cars were breaking and took a T28 for me to get home. Camped and barely slept in a tent that was leaking water in to fuck. Got up wanting to just get home, rushed fitting the turbo and ended up not tightening the oil feed to turbo. this delayed me getting home fucking loads and was so fed up. Got home and there was a slight rumble coming down from revs to idle.

Did what anyone would do in my situation...

I did come into a couple of problems with the swap. Main one being this.

Flywheel bolt stripped in the crank. Luckily I was able to re-tap it and used Green loctite on all the bolts to ensure they weren't gonna fuck off.

Gisken OS twin plate wouldn't fit the SR so went with a competition clutch stage 4.

Also whilst all that shite was out i decided to finally do an intercooler tuck.

SR in.

Went to bolt up exhaust and discovered why the CA elbows changed with SR's. Gave me motivation to do something I'd been wanting to do for a while anyway.

Ignore the shite welds, Welder was being a pain in the dick.

"Finished"

Heres where the fun began, Wouldn't start. Two reasons, fuel lines wrong way around and No spark. Norfy was a fuckin godsend helping me out with it. Troubleshooting lack of spark managed to fix it somehow as the next day it turned over and started. Then died. Measuring 8v at the coilpack plug decide its weak spark causing it, trace the wire looking for breaks or anything. No deals, back to London.

No idea why I thought of it cause the problem didn't not seem like an AFM at all but got my dad to unplug the AFM and start - fires up and keeps running. Plugs in the AFM - dies. Ask him to check part number - S14 AFM. I managed to somehow mix up my AFM's during the shed being a mess with the CA coming out and SR going in.

Bit of a shit end to the update but aye, getting my S13 AFM back in and it will be good to go when I'm back at Christmas.

Sounds fucking stressful. Can't wait to see vids of this with the straight cam

Fucking right mate. Even more stressful having to fit a months worth of work into a week when I'm up north before I go back to London. Need to get the chassis rails notched for my next plans but no idea when i'll have time to get the welder out.

Straight cam is gonna be a thing too, can't wait to hear it chapping.

Okay, so got back home for Christmas and started with the final few jobs to get it ready.

Fired in the proper AFM, did the remaining bolt on bits that weren't done like the prop to diff etc. Dropped it, fired up first try with no problems.

Only problem was bolting up the rest of the exhaust, the new downpipe was squint as hell and about 3-4 inches in the wrong direction. Fired some jubilee clips on to keep it in place and took it out for a run.

Ran sweet as fuck, loved the power delivery even with the boost controller turned off and running at 7psi.

Don't have any pictures but chopped out the centre join of the downpipe and welded in a V band to straighten the exhaust. - now squint in the opposite direction and it sags a bit just before the rear box.

I had just got a new camera on this trip home so managed to get a picture of it and real excited to get the camera to a proper event.

I've been wanting to go lower in the front for a long time but when I came back to the car I kind of realised it was a bit daft but fuck it, I had already committed.

I had these Tien short coilsprings lying about for months after realising I had ordered the wrong size for Apex whilst working away and decided to buy some HSD's to be able to fit them.

I had a last minute decision to do Driftland at a private hire some boys were struggling to fill up.

Since my exhaust was scraping a bit in the middle section and generally being a pain in the arse, tried to bodge it with jubilee clips again but no deals. In the end I decided to temporarily raise the car so that Jeek wouldn't be pissed at me for scraping an exhaust all round his track so decided to bang in the rear HSD's instead of adjusting the Apex's. Just didn't make sense to adjust them when I'm about to pull em...

Set them to full low, with no spring droop with the 7kg springs on. HSD's came in slightly longer than the Apex's on full low, about 2-3mm and then with spring droop removed it looked like it gave me a nice bit of extra clearance.

(Stupidly) washed before Driftland and ready to go when I realised, that extra raise did fuck all after settling.

Fuckit.

Car went well. Used a LOAD of fuel. Way more than it should have regardless of any engine so have got a Lambda to replace as apparently this controls fuelling.

Was panicking about the car breathing heavy too from speaking to straightcam owners with catch cans but it didn't breath badly at all!

Was a wet day so didn't really get up to much hard driving but still gave it a good shot arsing about with transitions and snappier entries.

Although I really didn't want photos taken since I couldn't be fucked putting the front lip on to have it ripped off again this cropped up and even though it looks disgusting without the front lip I like the picture.

This picture also cropped up the other day from AB.

More to come before I head back down the road and need to upload some clips from the private day.
