Keeve's Lowstyle S13

Cheers mate! Depends on if you're running preload. If you're not you wont' notice any difference. Only issue is bottoming out the dampener as the dampener now moves further down. - You can measure it though, someone in Daze's S14 build thread explains it quite well.

I can't say i've noticed any difference yet tbh, I haven't taken it on track since. it felt less bouncey in the rear but i did have about 1cm of preload previously. Could be a placebo also.

Cheers mate, I don't believe I am running any preload on the rear, if I am it is a very small amount!

Think I might give it a go, havnt got any drift days booked in yet so I can have a play around :)

Back up north so have a few updates on this.
A Cusco 7 Point Dash dodger showed up on Facebook so I jumped at the chance to finally get a Cusco into the car.

Arrived a few days before I got home. Grabbed the luggage scales out to weigh it as it weighed a lot less than what a safety21 should, confirmed my thoughts that it was a D1 spec. Removed all the stickers and shite from it. Gave it a light sand and then a few coats of Nissan Intense Blue which is a pretty good match to Cusco Blue.

After half a day laying a few coats on and making up some base plates, I went to fit it to the car.

That aint right...

Great, its a non-sunroof model cage. Tried to make it fit by cutting up my window seal from below and in the end decided to just get it to fuck and keep waiting for the right version of cage! Absolutely raging.

In better news, Jeek put up information about his event "Awesomeboss" in which I was lucky enough to make the cut for Huxley's Japan Class so thats given me the drive that I need to finally get the styling in a finished state.

Started off by doing some horrific fibreglass repairing to my Kouki spats. Never used fibreglass before and I don't think trying to do a 90 degree bend straight off the bat was the greatest idea.

Its been all trimmed down and sanded so should fit well enough to not look like ass when painted but I'll just get new ones whenever I see them crop up.

Also started work on getting rid of the wavey as fuck arches from when I bent them back. Just nailed them with filler and started to come out not bad. Ran out of time for the day I was working on them so threw paint ontop to see just how it'd look.

Still way more sanding to do but at least it doesn't look like ass.

For a while now I've had a weird tight spot in my steering with aggressive flicks to the right. Left is sound and steering normally is also all good. Swapped out heaps of stuff since this issue so have managed to rule out stuff like tie rods etc. Checked the PAS belt and it felt a little bit loose so I nipped it up. Twat then snapped after about 5 minutes driving. Didn't look fucked so no idea what was up with that.

Decided to get a proper, non dodgy alignment done somewhere with a Hunter system. Managed to get into GT Tyres in Forres same day and were happy to give me a motorsport spec alignment. Since Paul lives in Forres I popped in by and nicked his PAS belt to keep me going and got the alignment done.

My alignment was absolute garbage.

All aligned up fine, I went for a pretty basic alignment of:
Front Camber:-4'40
Front Castor: 7'10
Front Toe: -0'05
Rear Camber: -1'
Rear Toe: 0'

Took it out for a run and felt really nice although the issue of the 'tight spot' was still there so still going to be troubleshooting that.

Hoping to manage to get to Driftland or Crail this trip up north also to test it properly. Have tyres waiting, no issues on the car and I have a few extra things to pick up from people down the road.

tight spot aint the rack bent on one side is it? so when it slides back in it nips up hence the tight spot, i think its possible haha

Figured out how to do it all the time now, its when i pull the steering to the left, then throw it right. Just took the cap off and gone from lock to lock a few times. Gets stiffer nearer the end of lock on both sides but i'm assuming thats just normal after fitting cut knuckles. If its still stiff I'll swap out fluid, still stiff after that I'll live with it. Done 6 skid days with it so far so aint going to bother me if I have to live with it.

Got a bit more fillering done and starting to get a bit happier with how the car looks. Found an electric sander too which made the job way easier/faster.

Still a bit shite but its looking presentable-ish at least. Will have it finished 100% when it goes for paint in the next few months.
My Gearstick always had like 2cm of sag between the knob so I cut two bits of plastic and zip tied them either side of the knob which keeps it up and looking a lot better.

Since the car was aligned I wanted to go test it out before I go back to london. Crail and Driftland were both on, but decided to go to Crail since I haven't been in the S13. Long story short, It was fucking weak. Spent most of the day doing this.

Not too bad as it was good getting the crack with people I don't normally see.
First off on the problems was I noticed i was getting a shit load more wheel hop by the time we got into Crail. Jacked the car up and moved the wheels and was getting a shit load of play in the CV Joints already and I haven't even skidded the new shafts.
Then I managed to get 5 minutes on a track which had the same grip levels as an ice rink and the front end would wash away when you went past a certain angle. Managed to get back out when it dried slightly and had a bit more grip for my PAS belt to snap again. Tried to keep driving but the steering was way too stiff and I would have binned it so came off. - At least I didn't have an 8 hour round trip for 7 minutes on track...
Drained the fluid which did fuck all, still stiff as hell. Looks like a PAS belt is next on the spares list.
Good news being I picked up a 4.1 diff, 10mm longer shafts, OEM front wings, Solid diff mounts and Engine Polybushes. - Will be a busy few days before the May weekender!

So yeah, ended up saying fuck it and bidding on some vs xx from japan and won the bastards.

17x9.5 ET28

Arrived and they were Chrome, not silver as I had expected so I had a nightmare trying to find someone to re-furb them as my initial plans were to stick with the gold and red. - At this point I hadn't seen them in person and went on my dads comment as "they're a bit flakey".

Got back and decided they weren't too bad and at the end of the day they're only wheels so decided they're staying Chrome. Impatiently gave them a bit of polish to see what they would come out like...

Went out to my mates and fitted tyres, fucked about for about 20 minutes with fire trying to get the tyres on. Turns out I was able to fit a 215/45/R17 with just holding it on the rear bead...

And fitted, alongside some 20mm spacers on the front Rays.

Initial plan from using will they fit was to run the 25mm spacer all the time then swap an additional 15mm on for when I'm running the Rays.

Nope.

None of my spacers will fit as 25mm is the only ones where the studs clear the spacer, and the Works are flat backed, which is a bastard as now I need to run extended studs and can't stack spacers.

Test fitting done I gave them a proper wash with steel wool. Then the car.

In between all this I bled my clutch as it was feeling notchy last time I was out. The fluid was Black, definitely overdue. Started trying to fit my skyline/stagea 10mm extended shafts also. Turns out I had 2 drivers shafts so had to throw back in a fucked one and just packed it out with grease in the meantime til I source more shafts.

Nice! Almost the same dimensions as my rears except mine are +26.

Extended studs aren't too bad, just knock the studs out of your bolt ons and stack them up. I run a 15mm with the Works and an additional 8mm when running the 17x9 +38 Advans.

Yeah I have som extended studs so going to be using them. New to stacking spacers and shit but will get there.

They look MUCH better with a polish dude :)
At least presentable until you head to AB!

Presentable until Awesomeboss? What you planning....

Since these are relatively good offset for the front and they weren't going to fit the rear without being a pain in the arse I've changed my plans.

Threw the 8.5j Rays back on the rear with a 25mm and 15mm spacer, sitting perfectly. Works need a small spacer to clear the calipers but I'm just going to keep this 10mm and add a little bit more camber. Should sit well like this!

Wow, those works completely change the car, they suit it down to the ground. Perfect amount of dish too if you ask me

Fuck yeah, looks amazing.

Going to leave the 215/45s on or drop to 215/40s for clearance?

I always found 215/45's up front rubbed on everything when low and we seem to be running similar heights

Cheers guys, Really rated the gold Ray's all round and wanted to keep that look 1 out of 3 times I'm on track but I think the works look way better up front.

Not sure to be honest, I have considered it but I need the extra clearance for getting up and down the road to my house. Its like a mile and a bit of single track road and the splitter drags along the ground at certain points kicking stones up over the bonnet haha.
I wore through a 215/45 RSR earlier in the year through rubbing on crusty arches which pissed me right off so I'm only running cheap tyres til I get clearance sorted. I'm planning doing a sort of "Tub" where i'm going to cut out the top parts of the arch turrets and chassis rail so that I can get shorter/cut springs so I can lower the front right down. Then if I ever need to pull the engine out I'll tub them properly.

I hear ya, always a trade-off between ground clearance, scrub clearance and tyre-guard gap. I can see why people end up going mental with the grinder when trying to get the best of both worlds.

With such a big front wheel you won't have a lot of leeway with camber to get things looking good and working well. Might be worth while finding a spare pair of virgin front guards to have a bit of a play with maybe?
