Mercedes C230 Kompressor

Considering where they sit on a Merc C230, right next to the exhaust manifold and attached to the alternator by the side of the engine, i cant even imagine the crazy amount of work itd take.

May as well just turbo it, way easier.

But yeah, the ones off Jag XJRs are v.cheap in the UK used.

im in the middle of porting an m62, once its done if you would like i could loan it to you to check out the performance increase, if you like it we could come to a deal ;)

still worth a look...

part of what makes that car awesome is that it has such even boost with an m90 you can get the performance you want and still keep the even boost...

the overall dimensions of the chargers are the same without the snout but the outlets are very different... i dont have the car so i cant look to see how hard it would be to fit(at some stage im going to slap an M90 on my e46 :))...

the drawings did not come out too clear on the background here are the links if you want to compare the two:

M90

M62

with the space available and the extra fabrication needed for the m90, as Stav says it would be less hassle to turbo it.

Thing is, its far from even boost. It starts about 3psi and is about 10psi by the rev limiter.
Granted, torque curve is flat as hell mind, but even a fairly big turbo will see that 10psi before the s/c sees 5, giving far more peak torque and more from about 2500 till the rev limiter.

I do like the supercharger though, just wish there was more of it. But making a M90 fit would be a right mission I think, and as this is just a fun daily with very little spent on it, I cant see it happening, esp as I never seen it done yet.

It has not been done because MB drivers are very too boring :)

Least you got some drawings now so you can work out what's involved which ever way you go I can't wait to see how it turns out :)

It turns out to be nothing. Snouts wont swap, and there simply isnt room without going to huge efforts and for not loads of gain.

E55 AMG engines bolt in to W202s using stock C43 mounts, thats a lot less work and a lot more result.

Or just bolt on a turbo and do 400bhp+ on stock internals, using off the shelf turbo manifolds.

if you can find one the m62 from a 2002 SLK 32 AMG they have Teflon-coated rotors and can boost enough to get 350bhp, but i got no idea what it looks like :( and it still wont make 400 bhp

if you can find one cheap might be an option, but you seem pretty set on a turbo :)

Id much rather have some 450bhp supercharged monster, but that means fuckloads of custom fab. Not worthwhile.

Scadden- Ive done 130 miles a day 5 days a week, and a good 30odd other days, since I bought it 4-5 months ago, sees the limiter at least 10 times a day, been raped on track 3 times, its got almost 190k on the clock now, and its not missed a beat.
So id say in my expeirences, very!

Timmi- You heard it then? Its not shy is it, lol. The noise the dumpvalve (its standard!) makes when you let off at high revs is the most ridiculously loud thing, everyone turning round makes ya feel a bit daft sometimes, lol

i know what you mean DD and custom fab = no more DD :) wont tuning become a problem with a turbo? seeing as there cant be too many that have done it before?

best you get another DD and get cracking on this one lol

I dont want this as a Project, thats what the FC is for, and better in every way.

Turbo is easy, dont even need a remap if stick to about 10psi and gives about 100bhp on top of what the s/c gives, lol.

And theres off the shelf turbo manifolds available for them, been done loads of times. In fact I have a manifold.

But as you say, as its a DD im in no rush as it needs to stay on the road!

Thanks to Alex and co at GT Garage- gt-garage.co.uk The diff is welded and good to go.

Chepstow this weekend is cancelled which fucking sucks, but 6th March is Pod so that will do nicely.

Driven about 50miles and up to about 110mph so far on the diff (inc sweeping motorway corners at 100 or so), and of all the cars I've had welders on (this is the 6th I think) its the least noticable when using normally, which is nice.
Maybe its how the Merc rear suspension/subframe is designed I dunno, but even at sub-10mph and full lock (the only time you can hear the tyres skipping) there is zero judder from the subframe/suspension, which is good going in the dry with 30psi in the tyres.
At any other speed you either dont notice anything, or it jus feels like when you got a decent aftermarket diff fitted, ie much grippier and direct.

So yeah, job done.

Would love to get a hydro fitted ASAP due to the car not even having a handbrake as standard (foot brake as its a Merc) but cant see how I'll get that fitted in time due to it being my daily.

That's quite interesting as my mates merc didn't feel that bad either with a welder. Well not for long anyway as it locked solid after the bearings collapsed a month later. Don't think they are as hardy as BM or Nissan diffs.
But my s13 was the most awful thing I've ever driven with a welder. Lasted 2 days before I took it back off. Just couldn't stand how badly it made the car handle. But I have poly bushes.
I recon a lot of it is how much play the stock bushes allow the back end to have before it effects the handling.

I think a lot is to do with wheel/tyre combo personally, the bigger the wheels and tyres, the worse it is. Still changes car to car, but that is a general rule IMO.

Its not just that that as its got 225s and 30psi, and is a lot better than cars in the past with 185s and 50psi.

Pretty certain is not subframe mounts like many say either as its way better than my S13 with solid ones, and way better than my S12 with almost non existant ones.

Lots of variables. Rear suspension design is probably a big one. Who knows. Or actually cares.

Cars done about 200 quite hard miles with it now, tis fine, and handles miles better (even hard grip driving) than with an open diff.

Took it to Pod yesterday. It goes good and takes a beating just fine. Could do the track 2-3 laps in a row without spinning in both directions, which is nice.
