newbie, what mod next

hiya peeps, i have a 200sx s14 1995 which i have sideways every weekend in empty car parks and lorry parks. i'm well happy with the way it handles but feel it needs tightening up. so far i only have apex springs but kayabe agx adjustable dampers on way, won't get coilovers till misses gets own car otherwise she complains.ideas????
also i've done bits to the engine. ie s/s zorst from turbo elbow back, k&n duction, boost valve, iridium plugs. fmic next and blow off valve. any thing else come recommended????????
sorry bout long post but other car in auto trader so will have 1500 to spend on silvia

Hi insane, good to have you on board :).
There's plenty of stuff in the shop that will help tighten up the feel of the car without making it too stiff, have a little look at the items like steering rack bushes if you want something cheap and relatively easy to do :)..

pulsar engine on an s14 gearbox

maybe i posted in the wrong place first time so i'll try again, i'm a newbie  iv'e got a some what bent pulsar and i was wondering if i can put the engine on an s 14 gearbox and then put that in an s12 . I know about clearance issues with the bulkhead and dizzy cap and the engine mounts but i can always make some new ones. if not then i,m gonna have ago at putting the whole running gear in so i have a 4wd s12 , any thoughts would be welcome , thanx .rob

Whats the difference between a welded diff and an LSD?
A welded diff is just what it says, welded solid so both wheels turn together. A LSD has still got the capability to turn the wheels at slightly different speeds ie: when turning. You will find with a welded diff you will hear one tyre trying to spin as it tries to keep up with the other tyre when turning. With a LSD it will still spin both wheels if provoked, but only really when needed. Hope this explains it a little better.

with alot of free time in summer i need to put it sumwhere. i was lookin to buy a sierra and use that to start drifting. if anyones got and ideas how to go about it let me know.

I surprised myself this afternoon:

I was doing around 25-30 i guess and was in second gear in a large empty damp car park so i thought, right, im gonna try something now!! In one motion i steered quite heavily to the right and from what i can remember, partially kicked the clutch.

There was a chirp from the tyres and the next thing i know the car is sideways at some extreme angle and amazed at the speed at which it happened. I made a sin i guess by raising the right foot most of the way off the throttle (i've got to get those reactions sorted), and frantically wound some opposite lock on (a lot more than i had expected to). After what seemed like an age of going sideways (and me thinking its going to spin out), the car straightened up and kicked a little before gripping and slowing.

Needless to say i had a huge smile on my face after that.

Im hooked :)

I've got 225/40/18 tyres on which i've noticed seem to cause the car to change angle at a greater speed than on the standard wheel/tyre set up.

whats ppl do with their handbrakes cos mines limp.. now i have seen a few posts about using skyline cables but whats all that about whats the reason for this??

ta, mark :)

Hi! I'm new, and sorry for my english, 'cause I'm from Belarus. I want to ask some questions:
1. How much drifting cost per week or per month?
2. I want to by my first car and i need advice: what car is better for drift and daily use? I guess it should be something like S13, S14 or RX 7... What do you think?
3. Where can I read regulations (rules) of drifting? It'll be good if it'll be in english or russia...

hi ppl, i sort of stumbled across this site 2 nite and it has held my attention for about 3hrs so far reading diff bits of forum! i like the sound of drifting but dont know what car to use, ideally something i have already would be good, what is the best idea for a learner out of the following: 1979 2ltr gl ford capri, 1988 3ltr toyota supra or 1990 2.6 turbo mitsubishi starion( may be hard to persuade my dad to let me drift the starion as he gave it to me) none of above have mots and all need work but which would be best to get legal and practice in?? any helpful advice muchly appreiciated!!

thanx drax0r, the capri needs welding for mot and is not worth much so could use it and would get classic insurance, would a 2ltr pinto lightened and balanced with wild cam and twin 40's be better than a 2.8 inj or 3ltr essex v6?

hey, just need some questions answer since im new to this...how would u first start if you come into a corner??how fast would you be running and what gear would you be on as you come into that corner??like what gear would you shift as you enter a corner?

1lorstar, you need to aquire yourself a copy of the Drift Bible :) It'll answer all of those questions and more! :)

hey all  real new to this but im going to make a start :P

will this drift

trailer.jpg

its a GTM Rossa i have one iv just about finished rebuilding to sell, its a kit car mini/metro based with the engine out the back n fuel up front giving damn near 50/50 weight distro, its runnin a 1380 road race setup with a nice big dellorto and open exhaust, would be nice if this works as i have it there already :P just not sure how it will handle and iv never really drifted before, just my beetle round the islands :P and an old 2ltr carlton in the wet

I have a mk1 capri that would make a great retro drifter :P 1969 mint condition, but theres the problem mint n only 30,000 miles and to nice to turn into my drifter which im sure to prang n then i cant get the body parts anymore, so if the one above doesnt work im going to sell the 2 and get something simple like a late 80's early 90's 3 series beemer.

Cant wait to get sideways

edit,, i guess i should ask whats a good way to test? find an empty area go into a corner dump the clutch and see how it feels?

You can start with a standard car, but you will need to rely heavily on weight transfer and if it has an open differential, you won't get very far before you want/need to upgrade it
