New to drifting?

newbie

Hi there Pesh
I dont know if this is correct, but i will have a crack at explaining it........

Normal diff's are designed to keep the wheels from evenlly spinning together, they drive in different ways to reduce wheelspin and increase steadyness and therefore you dont spin out....

An LSD is Limited slip differential, which will allow the car to evenlly drive the wheels together, letting you slide the car to a limit. Most modern RWD cars nowadays use LSD's and Some like ferrari's and porsche's use ELSD's ( Electronic Limited slip differntial)

If this is correct i hope it helps mate

This is pretty close. although an open diff doesnt stop you skidding, it just makes it harder to predict as the diff is designed to allow the wheels to spin at different speeds to prevent scrubbing on tight corners. a welder will lock the wheels together permanently and a slipper will lock them together when the difference in speeds between the 2 wheels becomes too high. meaning they spin at more or less the same speed allowing more predictability.

I want to buy a Nissan 240SX, is that a good car to start learning drifting and all? If not, what would be a good car?

I would prefer 200sx with CA18 or SR20, in my view KA24 isn't the right choice only if you put turbo ;)

Im new to drifting i used to drag and circut race I have a 2005 Mustang GT 539rwhp but its automatic ive already done alote of work to this car and some into the tranny so I dont want to change it out really but can you drift an automatic car and if so how

Wouldnt bother fella, Yes it will powerslide, but ultimately you need the control over the powertrain to really be in control of the car... swap it out for a manual.

hey all, im pretty new to drifting in my own car though ive been following it for a while (only just got the funds/balls to go rwd) and have a 1.8 NA mx5 can anyone tell me if its possible to strengthen the handbrake, as i pull it as fast as i can, but the wheels just wont lock :(

now im wondering where to get something similar for my uzz soarer ?

any help will be epic

regards

I need somewhere to practice really :( I don't really want to go to a full day as I'm a total noob so I don't want to look a muppet by just spinning all the time :(. Is there any way I can learn somewhere without being a burden on those that are already adept at drifting?

Yep,

Pod is the way forward.

Find "Lex" - he's the one who looks like a cross between a shut in computer dweeb and an east-end, stall based, vegetable salesman - and ask him to show you what he showed me and all will become good in your life. Later you can ask him to show you what I showed him, but thats a more advanced technique !!

:D :D :D

Hello i am a total newbie when it comes to drifting and i just want to ask you guys some questions.
First question:I am thinking of purchasing a BMW 325 E30 @ 190bhp (it is already tuned a little for drifting) as my first drift car ,what is your opinion about this car?(it is quite cheap that is why i am considering it)
Second question:Will i need a "special racer's licence" to enter in drift events? (i am curently living in Italy if this helps with the question)
Third question: Does anybody know any events in Italy? (i only found this one by googling http://www.d1stella.it/wfw/en/home but the calendar is from 2011 so i do not know if it is still going on)
Fourth question:Is it better to practice on parking lots late at night and other "out of sight places" or in a race track?
I would really appreciate it if you could answer this questions. :D

EDIT:I bought the car.Found out more about the itallian drift championship and it seems it is still going on.Went on the contact requests for drivers form on their website but there are 2 boxes saying Sponsor and Drifting Experience, i do not have a sponsor, i have not entered any drift events and i can't write "i know how to drift at parking lots" lol, so i am thinking of leaving the boxes empty, do you guys think they will acept a newbie like me without any sponsors or drifting experience. Also another question:Are license plates necessary on a car that is going to be used only in drift tracks and it will be moving around on a trailer ?

P.S. I will be applying for the street legal category but it will be in 1 to 2 months
