Not so N/A S13 anymore...

Checked the CAS and the timing? Also the cam to check for wear.

You've serviced it since you bought it?

Wow, didn't realise it had been so long since I updated this...

BIG UPDATE INCOMING - ARM YOURSELF WITH POPCORN!

Got the car back from mapping on the Sat 3rd Nov. Martin @ MB Automotive has fitted a Nistune and mapped it to 1.2 bar, it is a totally stock S15 Spec R SR20DET engine, including turbo, injectors etc etc.... Mega happy with it and it pulls like a train!! I was mega excited to get drifting in it

This was also my first time towing, as on the way down to pick the car up, we picked up my new trailer aswell, and then continued on down for the car. It was fine, the tiguan happily sits at 60mph in 6th.
IMG_20181103_142053-1280x960.jpg

Got the car back and planned to take it out the day after, but pulling it off the trailer, I noticed there was a puddle of water, upon opening the engine bay I found my bottom heater matrix hose was dripping like mad, it might aswell have been a constant stream!
IMG_20181105_085456-960x1280.jpg

Spoke to Martin @ MB Automotive and he said to get some S13 heater matrix hose and chop a bit off to sleeve the nozzles sticking out, did this and it has 99% cured it! There is just a small drip every now and again but this will be fixed promptly.
IMG_20181104_173602-960x1280.jpg

Took the car out after this and realised just how bloody fast it was haha, it just pulls and pulls, power right until redline with minimal drop off! Mega happy with it!

As I was booked onto Rockingham Meihan and Infield Drift Day the following Sunday I had to get sorted, I did some late night adjustments to centralise my steering so I had equal lock each way...
IMG_20181105_191329-960x1280.jpg

And the next morning I nipped down to Target Tyres in Sowerby Bridge, and got the S13 aligned and also picked up 4 new tyres to burn off! At £30 each new I can't complain
IMG_20181106_104822-960x1280.jpg

Alignment settings at the moment are:

Front:
5.15° Camber
0.15 toe out
Stock castor(6.70°)

Rear:
0.50° Neg camber
0.20° toe in

HSD Monopros on fully soft all round

Next, I did some Meihan prep... Changed my rear lights for some smashed up ones off of one of the shells I bought recently
IMG_20181106_135452-1280x960.jpg
IMG_20181106_185054-1280x960.jpg

Looked pretty shit lol, I was not a fan! But trying to save pennies if I do smash the quarter in.

Rockingham was now looming so set about getting the trailer loaded and ready, got all my tyres and spare set of wheels with fresh rubber loaded and ready to go.
IMG_20181107_152405-960x1280.jpg

Fast forward a few days of working and we set off to Rockingham, 3 n half hour trip.... We made it there in time and dropped the trailer in the car park and left for Amy's friend as they were local and we wanted Chinese for tea

The tiguan towed well again, although anything above 58mph the trailer started fishtailing which lead me to think we loaded it incorrectly, but we will learn over time.
IMG_20181110_185015-960x1280.jpg

Then we came back to the hotel and went to sleep, woke up mega early and excited(6.30am!) and set Off for Rockingham, got there for just after 7.30am and unloaded the car and parked the trailer up then went down to the pits

Going through the pits we had no idea where to park, but we spotted an E36 that was at our hotel the night before and asked if we could pit next to them and they were up for it

It was drifting time!! Went out on the Outer Paddock first - basically a car park with some lines and a few concrete walls and cones. It was very wet start to the day and all the line paint was still wet, which meant the side of my car got caked in the line paint... But the car was amazing, so much power, extremely responsive and very predectible. The track then dried out and we had lots of dry drifting for the rest of the day!! Headed to Lakeside track to try my luck and instantly fell in love. Top of 3rd gear throughout and then a nice tight corner at the end to try big angle entries...

Here's 8 minute video I made of onboard in the S13

FB_IMG_1542209669635-1280x853.jpg

Also met up with @dandadude at Rockingham and attempted a bit of twinning, you can see in the pic above he's lagging behind!

Better pic with him leading on Lakeside and me chasing.
FB_IMG_1542209607039-1280x853.jpg

Then I went to the Meihan replica layout and my god!! What a track! It has been done amazingly and feels great to drive! The car was hitting the limiter in 3rd just before initiation so could do with slightly longer(or shorter) gearing... But it seemed to work OK as there wasnt much I could do anyway.

Here's a 14 minutes onboard video of the S13 aswell, excuse the not-so-great driving!

And a few pics:
FB_IMG_1542050268264-1280x825.jpg
FB_IMG_1542149398160-1280x853.jpg

And many front wheel lock ups happened
FB_IMG_1542149394483-1280x853.jpg

Also Amy got an outside view of an entry:

The car was flawless all day! The only thing I wasn't keen on was the lack of rear end grip, you'll see in the onboard Meihan vid that the car just washes out alot and seems like I'm drifting on cords but I'm not.. Although I didn't mess with tyre pressures.

Also picked up some wheels I won off Freddie a while ago

But I have nothing these would be practical on, so if anybody is interested let me know

SSR Agle Minervas - recently rebuilt with brand new tyres all round
Fronts: 18x10 et22
Rears: 18x11 et22

Will post another update later with what I've done since Rockingham, but not much interesting

Was good to see the car in person at rockingham. Even if I only saw it driving around the pits.
I hate to think what the price is for the wheels but fire me a pm with the price you have in mind as I need more wheels

You're looking pretty comfortable in there, just shows learning on low power makes the step up way easier!

As for rear end grip, i'd imagine it's tyre pressures. With such soft dampers (and assuming the normal 5 or 6kg springs) and next to no camber that's what it's pointing to, unless you've got a mega stiff rear swaybar. Unless the tyres themselves are a horrifically high treadwear/compound

You should be able to run those as low as 20psi safely, but step them down in 4-5psi increments. I'd almost go another step further with the tyre pressures and then do the final fine tuning on the dampers

Ye, I kept the tyres at 30psi all day and never bothered to adjust them which I'm annoyed about now especially as it only takes seconds to do, there's barely any stretch on these at all and I reckon I could get away with 16psi if needed, but we'll see how we get on next time, although it'll probably be wet knowing my luck lol!

But ye, car is ace and drives sooooo nice! Really really responsive and can place it where I want, again just wish it had more rear end grip

Had a look yesterday and the rear coilovers are already running 25mm droop aswell so don't have much adjustment there either booo

o...since Rockingham, I have done a few things to the car, mainly just amending stuff that I picked up on from Rockingham.

First off I had to cut my handbrake cover. As I noticed on the Meihan layout that when I was entering and letting go of the handbrake, the cover would get stuck on the centre console and then the handbrake would not release fully!!
IMG_20181114_094905-960x1280.jpg

First off I got a marker and drew a line around the bottom of the cover where it sits, as my plan was to chop off anything below the centre console so then it could physically NEVER catch.
IMG_20181114_094921-960x1280.jpg

Once marked, I took a stanley knife to it and chopped off what I didn't need
IMG_20181114_095135-1280x960.jpg

Then re-fitted it and this is how it sits now when not on, thankfully you can't tell its been chopped
IMG_20181114_095253-1280x960.jpg

and this is how it looks when the handbrake is applied - hopefully no more sticky handbrake!!
IMG_20181114_095258-1280x960.jpg

I then changed my rear lights back to the good looking D-Max jobbies, didn't need to change them in the first place lol as I drove like a fanny anyway!
IMG_20181114_111644-1280x960.jpg
IMG_20181114_112602-1280x960.jpg

This is the first time in 2 years at a drift day that I've managed to make 2 brand new pairs of tyres go down to the cord within 4 hours of drifting lol - guess it doesn't help that Rockingham was mainly 3rd gear!
IMG_20181114_102720-1280x960.jpg

I then started looking at how I could gain more rear end grip, after speaking to Daze on Facebook a few times, he suggested I should try adding some "Droop" onto my rear suspension, I also wanted to lower the car all round now to a more desireable height, as I wasn't keen on the 4x4 look.

Picture of both drivers and passengers rear suspension setup - the passenger side as you can see is all white, covered in Line paint from the Outer Paddock layout at Rockingham on the morning as it was still wet the paint wasn't dry - not ideal!
IMG_20181114_100227-960x1280.jpg
IMG_20181114_100617-960x1280.jpg

Upon checking my rear shocks, I found out that I already had 25mm droop in the rear, so that was a bit of a bummer...
IMG_20181114_100240-960x1280.jpg
But I lowered the rear 20mm anyway.

I then moved onto the front suspension, the best part about adjusting the front coilovers is that I don't have to remove the wheels lol(lazyitis kicking in again) - upon doing such actions, I quickly noticed that the driver's tyre had worn down to the cords on the inner edge...Great!
IMG_20181114_120242-960x1280.jpg

Checked the passenger's and that was pretty much the same... I'm not mad lol, I did alot of front lockups and the tyre's have been on the car for 2 years(although only driven a quarter of that time).
IMG_20181114_120652-960x1280.jpg

Onto more important things, I then added 20mm droop either side at the front and I also lowered each side 5mm.
IMG_20181114_122218-960x1280.jpg

Definately looking much better for it
IMG_20181114_125420-1280x960.jpg

This was also the first time the S13 and R34 have been together, so got some quick pictures.
IMG_20181114_125333-1280x960.jpg
IMG_20181114_125353-1280x960.jpg

Then washed it and it was mega filthy from the drive down on the trailer(in the rain) and the morning session at Rockingham(in the wet) and covered in Line paint.
IMG_20181106_145710-1280x960.jpg

After washing it, the sides still had LOADS of Line paint on them so that will need to be polished out at some point...
IMG_20181114_143014-1280x960.jpg

All clean...
IMG_20181114_143536-1280x960.jpg

Then covered the car up as not much will be happening with it until NYE now when I plan on taking the car to Teesside.
IMG_20181114_144158-1280x960.jpg

I think my next port of call for gaining more rear end grip is definately messing with tyre pressures, I'm also going to try some Kenda KR20 tyres as i've heard good things about them and they are the same price as my current tyres(£30 each lol)

Thats brave leaving a loaded trailer alone in a random car park mate, any gippo could have that away in about 30 seconds.

Well we did think that but unfortunately no other way - it has a Hitch Lock and a wheel clamp on it and we did tell the hotel reception who could see it from their desk

Get that thing lower!!... lol looks sick mate I'll have to watch the footage when I finish work they filter it! Great build makes me look forward to getting another s body once I've got some experience in my 36

Haha it's lowered the maximum now, i'm not going mega low like before because it drove horribly and i'm trying to retain as much driveability as possible on my limited budget unfortunately!

Ye man let me know what you think and any feedback!

Ye I'm undecided, as my theory is with a rear ARB, it will help bring the trailing wheel down so in essence could give more grip in actual fact?

It doesnt work like that bud, to put it simply the harder the rear of the car (stiffer) the less grip. Rear roll bars stiffen cars up and lower the point of traction loss. If your lacking forward traction i'd look to toe the rear in a touch or look at traction rods to adjust the rear bump steer effect/tracking when it squats.

@BenRice - Ye fair enough - i've just always heard that they feel better with an ARB and more predictable, as @r3k1355 said though, I can fit it, and then just remove the droplinks for a few runs to see if it does make a difference

My current alignment settings are as follows:

Front
-5 deg front camber
0.15 toe out
6.70 castor(stock)

Rear
-0.5 neg camber
0.15 toe in
Stock traction arms
Stock lower arms
20mm droop

I have always ran these settings on my old brown S13(including stock rear traction arms) and it was mint and had LOADS of forward bite when you were sideways...

Its starting to point towards my tyres, the tyres currently on are the cheapest my local tyre supplier could get me, Aptany 205/45/16 - and I only ran them at 30psi - I've now got a tyre pressure gauge and i've dropped them down to 20psi so might make a difference - and I plan on also buying some Kenda Kaiser KR20 205/45/16 from a mate to see if they make a difference as he says they are really grippy...
