The HOLSET Thread

As a complete novice, I'm posting this question so I don't waste money on something that don't work.

Afaik the compressor is the grey/silver bit and the exhaust housing is the black/dark part

So if I buy a hx40 turbo that comes looking like this

Can I remove the black bit, which I believe is the housing and use the hx35 housing below

Is it as simple as screw on and off or it's more work involved?

Thanks

This is not the sort of thing an average machine shop can do.

You may need a different core, turbine wheel, housing...or combination of all 3.

If you want a hybrid turbo, by one from somewhere that actually builds them and knows what they're doing.

But you dont just randomly throw parts together and expect them to work.

the hx35 housing is 11cm

the guy with the hx40 has not got back to me about the hx40 housing yet, but will post when he does

the seller of the hx35 housing said it will physically bolt on to the hx40, but the hx35 housing will need to be machined out a little for the larger hx40 turbine wheel to fit.
also said any shop with a lathe can machine it out to fit,

just trying to make sure but don't wanna buy and get stuck with something cannot use

its to go on 2.0 beams altezza, built engine, aimng for around 450 whp

Personally don't bother with a hx40. the lag you will get on a 2.0 will just bore you.

Go for something smaller like hx35 or a hy35... will be more efficient for what you want and will produce less lag.

also if your aiming for 450bhp on a beams engine I hope you've opened it up and built it

Yes, built engine,

I know the stock can only handle low boost and 250 to 280bhp

That's fair, But still, get the idea of a hx40 out of your head as it will be a waste of time effort and money and youll find that your not happy with the car. ideally hx40 needs to be on a 3.0 or a v8 impo...

hy35 on anything 2.0 and under unless some serious work has/is being done.

hx35 is a good middle ground but as you know they have become more popular and have started fetching more money for good examples.

I've decided against the idea after the good advice of the knowledgeable people here.

I've come across a company called FHummelTuning, who do hybrid Hillary turbos .

Anyone got further info on their hybrid hx35 with 9cm custom housings?

Ideally on anything under a 2.0 engine not going for mammoth power id say you'd want to go with less than a 10cm exhaust housing so you can actually get usable power instead of just lag lag lag death

do you have a build thread?

Hello, I am in France, i search infos about a holset h2c.
I want to do a rear mounted mono turbo on a E55 AMG w210 5,4l V8 N/A, similar as Stavros.
I want a low cost set up.
I don't find informations for which turbo i must choose, for 6-8 psi with stock compression to win 100-150 HP and spool 3500 RPM or before.
Holset h2c is cheaper than hx50-55 but i don't know if this turbo is ok ?
Or another turbo if someone know which?
