Finally I have had my holset hx32w running on my 1jz vvti. I bind the eBay 44mm wastegate in favour for a turbosmart gate.
It has now been on the rollers and I’m not overly impressed with what I have achieved if I’m honest.
I’m on a 12cm rear housing. 3” downpipe and system.
I made 463bhp at 22psi. Looks to come on boost at 4200-4500rpm
Is there anything I can do to the turbo to make it perform better?

Should be spooling up much faster than that. I know of an IS200 running a 1JZ and a 12cm HX32 that is at 1.5bar by 3100rpm. Is the wastegate leaking or opening prematurely? Since the turbo is a W have you checked to see if the internal gate has actually been welded shut properly too?

I'd be looking at a larger downpipe/exhaust to be honest though, especially if the wg is plumbed back into the exhaust
 
You can feel a very small amount of gasses escaping the wastegates dump pipe On idle and I don’t believe it is opening early. It makes and holds it’s spring pressure very well.
I know the internal parts are welded shut because I welded them up.
I run a screamer pipe. I can look at doing a larger downpipe but I’m not sure that I have the room.
 
What manifold? Is it twinscroll?
Bigger downpipe will get you much better mid range and also increase hp.
Doesn’t seem too far off where it should be power wise with the 3” downpipe and if the 1J still has the oem cams also
 
End hp number looks right, just the midrange is missing.

I hate to be one of those people that gives a completely irrelevant personal example, but I'm going to be lol

I had the same issue when the VCT on my RB25 wasn't engaging, causing the turbo to spool at 4500. With it engaging properly it was spiking 1 bar by 3300. Funny thing was i didn't touch the VCT power feed, but it still let go all on it's own.

The only lesson to take from my example is to not immediately expect it's the turbo causing the issue
 
The manifold is a japspeed 3mm wall. It could be twin scroll with a bit of modifying but no currently it’s not.
Also yes it has the oem cams in it still. Only internal mod is arp head studs.
 
Just not convinced the vvt is working so when it’s back together I am going to do a couple pulls up the road and unplug the vvt to see if it makes a difference.

Gents any idea what this turbo model is ? And if i can use it on 1jz vvti? There is no model tag only i there is number 19 written on the exhaust flang
 
Looks to be a Holset HX40, 8+8 blade compressor which should either be 58/83mm or 60/83mm. Twin scroll T4 19cm turbine, so fairly large, but not out of place on a turbo of that size. Depends what you want out of your setup, plenty of people have run HX40s on 1Js. Turbine housing is on the large side for a 2.5ltr, but again depends on what you want to achieve really. If you want instant response/super quick spool etc best look elsewhere though

As a side note, if that happens to be a 60/83mm one, I'd be very interested in it...

I have an M52b28 powered e36 which I was looking for a new turbo for (allready had an GT28, low boost)
I first decided to save up for either a GT3076R or a G25-550, but i found this thread, with all the holset info.
Have been fitting the car with a holset HX35w 12cm2 during last winter. with an SPA log manifold 3inch downpipe to a 3inch exhaust and a turbosmart WG45 wastegate.
I could do all this for the price of a G25-550 alone, And i have to say, I couldn't be happier.
Spools around 2200rpm, full boost (currently at 0,8bar) at 3~3,5K RPM and my logs tell me that there is more than enough air for 400hp which is my goal.
Car is a beast now.

excuse my weld, first time ever welding something ;) i got the downpipe and wastegate piping wrapped in heat wrap now as well.

 
Finally had my r33 on rollers again. 2 years ago dynoed 440 hp @ 1.6 bar of boost with what turned out to be a significant boost leak (vacuum nipple on/under throttle body wasnt blocked).

Anyway now with the boost leak sorted (and new bypass etc) I hit 553 hp and 725nm at 1.55 bar! Over 100 more hp with less boost! Wohoo

4 years ago when I started designing my setup my goal was a responsive 500-550hp so Im super happy :) hits full boost around 3500 rpm from what i can tell while driving.

Im sure Im forgetting alot. . Was running into some issues with the ebc not reacting very well to duty changes (0 duty cycle gave 1 bar and 100 got us 1.05 bar). Had to install a restrictor before ebc solenoid and even with that now running 99 duty cycle. Well, it works and I dont think any more boost wouldve helped. So it's a stock RB30E bottom end with ARP & oil pump gears? Stock RB30E pistons & rods as well?

And running a single scroll turbine housing on a twin scroll manifold?

Any idea on the wheel specs of the HE351?

Yep a fully refreshed rb30e block (8.7:1 CR), acl bearings, piston rings, long nose collar for oil pump, acid dipped etc. Stock pistons and rods yes, which is why I wanted to limit my rpm 6800) and power.

Its a twin scroll housing on the turbo aswell.

Sweet, thanks man. Pretty much the same spec we used to see in competition over here ~2015.

When people started cracking pistons from continual abuse the whole forged pistons & rods plus stroker cranks, pushing them to 3.2-3.4 and 25psi+. Now people prefer to go stroker cranks on RB25's to push them to 2.8 as RB30 blocks are getting rare.

Never realised the difference between the inducer and exducer on the compressor wheel was so big! Compared to the turbine wheel ind/exd difference being quite small
 
Hi

I have a big h1c 8 blade, from all the googling over been doing, it's estimated that it can do around 500whp on a 4 cylinder 2 litre, but I cannot find a single build with numbers

Everyone just states it's slightly lower than a hx35, I figure it's not worth me buying a hx35 if its just slightly different.

I have an 18cm and 11cm housing for the big h1c.

Anyone have any more info?
