the lock thread

all this super awesome lock bull shit, and 95% of the people use their lock for the wrong reasons.

I agree with this. I notice a lot from my onboard footage that iam using the lock in some situations to save myself or maintain line ect. And it blatantly slows me down!!

I would be tempted to reduce lock but I actually enjoy having it most of the time.

Its weird how I have never run out of lock on the mx5, I must drive it in a different manner and iam guessing I would be on the stoppers all the time if I drove it on a track

thats what im talking about, i see SO much people with stupid lock using it at places where its actually working AGAINST them. i would NEVER sacrify speed for angle. dont get me wrong, good alignment will make HUGE diffrence in how the car feels and drifts. but giving yourself much lock and using it whenever where ever you can seems to be the wrong way, for me off course

This is one of the reasons I've welded lock stops to my lower arms. Although mega lock is great I'll never need it. Not till im a lot better at drifting anyway. And what I have is a hell of a lot more than stock anyway.

S13 Stock lock... just about making it backwards at Llandown during practice last year...

This year I've got more lock as I want to practice doing stupid things in my free time, but i think with the right setup you shouldn't need it.

funny you mention about your mx5, since i swapped to the rx7 ive never run out of lock on that either. i think when you drive a car with rubbish lock you try and run less angle to avoid needing. i think driving the rx7 is improving my drifting alot and not relying on lock to save me

So any BMW nuts here?

What's the best setup for a BMW E36? I've got HSD's (so caster and camber adj.). Going to buy camber arms in the rear and will be running a bit more lock then stock (4mm rack spacers).

the e36 knuckles cant be shortened by 25mm and lengthen your tie rods gives loads more lock:thumbs:

Same here as above, and also with your grandfathers old yankee whale.

Custom control arms, I widened track widht 14cm, (and reduced some Et from wheels)

Custom made steering rack with 28cm total travel.

Basic knuckle modification, and result is about 65deg (depending how much spacer you put in) with reasonably good geometry and basically 0 ackermann.

Not at full lock in this tho...

Heres mine from Norfolk Yesterday..
Modified hubs from W.J on here, DW rack spacers.
Chassis rail hammered and loom relocated.

This is my Z32, Not fully on lock but enough to show.
spec,
18x9.5 et30 with 25mm spacers running nice and wide 255/35/18 up front
DW offset rack spacers and cut the lock stops off the knuckles.
Only other mod was to take the arch liner out as the wide tyres would rub on half lock.
