The "when racing was fucking awesome" thread, 70's, 80's, 90's ahoy

Proper nose to tail big boost big power racing...

No music, just lots of awesome...

Or 30min of GrpB action from 1000 Lakes Finland in the 80s, NO commentary, no music, and not all the million bits you've seen 1000 times before...

8:12 :smokin: - foot to the floor racing!! I can't tell if that car is parked or re-joining but there would be waved yellows all over that these days.

Steve Soper put up a bloody good fight.

[will dig out a vid to go with this later]

underrated cars, looks like good racing on the full speed castle of doom track.

and more widebody porn

Serious cars there! Loving Coombe without the safety barriers too! Even at Japfest spectators would be hurt by crashes if it was still like that, lol.

Oooh, what will stop a 700bhp Thundersaloon, oh I know, a couple of old tyres half buried in the mud!

Very nice, I would compare this program to Ayrton Senna Beyond The Speed Of Sound. This is just the rally version. Still nothing we didn't know already.

Not a video for once, but a few pics.
I'd post them up in "Pic of the day" but thats full of shit pics of peoples own wanky Lupos and shit wannabee freelance photographers posting their own crappy shoots up.

Early 80s R31 Skyline GTS-R Group A Touring Car engines. 450bhp. Stock crank and rods and inlet and tbh lots more, as per the rules.

Part of the rules meant they HAD to have the MAF sensor connected (But they didnt want it on the engine as it was a restriction and they used MAP managment), so they did keep it connected, via a little vac pipe that did nothing, lol.

Haha! The MAF bolted to the inner wing is brilliant!

Also I take it they were RB20s? Proof again of how good them engines are!

Yes mate, RB20DET, stock crank, stock rods, stock inlet manifold, and so on as per Group A rules at the time.

RB20s have mega thick cyl walls, mega short stroke, a brilliant rod ratio, tuning wise they are strong as hell and built to rev. Just the super short stroke means they have cock all low down, but hey, no 2ltr has really.

Wish low mount mani's like that were widely (cheaply!) available, but they not common anymore.
JDM Garage had an old Blitz one that looked just like the above ones for sale few weeks back but its gone now IIRC.
