The "when racing was fucking awesome" thread, 70's, 80's, 90's ahoy

450bhp, but were limited by having to use stock GTS-R turbo size, as per homologation rules, same as RS500s etc.

Fuck. Me.

1100bph V8 TT

And that is how to drive a big power turbo car.

Slow the fekker down, power just before apex and slide the bugger through so that the rear wheels clip the exit kerb. He's bob on everytime, I don't think people realise how difficult these big grip aero turbo beasts are to drive, they mist be snappy as hell

The steering adjustments he's making are crazy, imagine doing that for hours on end, what a hero.
Braking from those kinds of speeds too is mental.

Stupid thing is, if that wasnt clearly an amazingly fast lap and amazing driving, a lot of the spastics (ie think they amazing drivers as they can do the odd skid) on here would see that video and slate it and say he's 'flapping at the wheel' and other such shite.

I'd presume that had power steering but it doesn't look like it, most of the steering movement is kickback through the column. Brilliant nonetheless, some old f1 footage is crazy too. Bleeding/bruised hands aplenty from gear changes.

What car is it?

The odd bits of counter-steer at that speed in that car, playing it cool as fuck.

So that thing ran 1100bhp for 24hrs!!!!!
Fuck, not only is that sick driving, but insane enginering!!

Actually no, IIRC it was only that powerful in that qualifying lap as the wastegate was stuck closed. Subsequently, they retired with an engine failure around 100 laps in.

Don't think they had power steering either, some of the later ones might have but I've heard stories about drivers having to full on hug the wheel and wedge their elbows into the doors at high speeds to get the things to go where they wanted.

Not all drivers can handle the power though, This was one of the sister cars to the le mans one shown above that stacked it at donington last month

Group C cars are awesome, so good to see their new owners taking them out and spanking them! Skip to 4.15 for mucho mercedes :D

He was told to pit due to the wastegate problem but pretended his radio was fucked and went for it.
238mph is a bit quick.

Amen. All that work without a sight of power steering and driver aids, lap after lap, for hours.

I don't even knew a human being could drive that fucking hard. Amazing.
