How drifting SHOULD look.

Ive got 2 bmws, ones my good car ones my missle.

the good car has too much money in it and id propably cry like a little girl if i smashed it up.

the missle is for going out and just not giving 2 fucks/getting way to close to folk/running steel rings

just because one is my good car and one is missle doesnt mean they dont get driven as hard as each other.

mine is wrapped and was all free ;) so could change it tomoro if i wanted :P

and yet you still dont. There in lies the problem.

Anyhow, i wasnt singling yourself out. I guess at least your out there driving. Would just be awesome for more people to suddenly click and realise you dont have to make your car look shit to drift, and you dont have to not drift if you have a good looking car. There is a happy middle ground as the original video in this thread shows. Just sad more people here dont get it.

but as been said before what you think looks good is shit to someone else, the problems lines with people that are narrow minded and onyl like one style and slag anything else. I like my car i built it by myself for myself not to sell products or get likes to drive and have fun. This year i have done that and will continue to do so ;) gota love the haters

IMO the biggest problem with the car scene in the uk is what you just said there ^^^ "love the haters"

It seems like anybody who builds a car of questionable appeal, wether it's a wank saxo, chavtastic spunk mobile or the above 14. Each person obviously think their car looks the nuts, in some cases I think they know they look shit but just like the attention their shit looking car gets. And when ever someone comments on it looking bad, they are apparently a hater...

Problem seems to be, despite lots of looks being very niche (I mean, look at my fucking car, it looks ridiculous), the universal "looks shit, dont look shit" is things like shockingly bad wheel fitment, running with just holes where headlights, random bits of bodywork which seems to not fit with the rest, etc, and regardless of car style, that looks bad.

If all cars, regardless of the 'style' they want to go for, had decent fitment and were actual complete cars of one particular style, rather than a load of random parts seemingly just thrown together, they'd all look pretty decent.

Good point to bring up.

When i first started out, i built a couple of cars. they were FUCKING WANK. i shudder in embarassment when i think about them. Everyone said they looked shit, bar a few people. Do you know what i did?

I didnt say "yeah theyre all Haters (fucking hate that word, it gets used in the wrong context more than ever with cars) i must be right, ill carry on.

I took a step back, and looked at a lot of cars that looked good, and tried to work out why. Took me a while and a few mistakes but soon realised it was pretty much what stav just put above. Wheel fitment and bits in the right place.

I have since built more cars than i can remember. Not for anyone else, definetly not to sell product as never done that, and not for likes. Just because, well why wouldnt i want to make a car look nice? why wouldnt anyone?

And im not being a big headed cunt, but i cant recall anyone ever saying any of them look shit. Im not narrow minded. I like pretty much all kinds of cars, im passionate about good looking cars. I just dont get why people have such difficulty in building them. The whole being "unique" thing seems to push people into making shit cars.

As for your own, once again ill say im not just picking on yourself, im glad you like it and im sure a few of your friends have said it looks great. But do you really think it would look shit with some wheels that fit, a front bumper and a decent paint job? Being different is great and your/everyones right. But dont dismiss anyone that doesnt like it as a "hater" that is just gay

a "hater" is someone that slags something off due to jealousy. I really dont think thats the case.

Anyhow, very little point arguing about it. Like ive said some (sadly a lot) of people just will never get it.

I have been trying for years to show people it really isnt difficult to make nice cars.

Wheels that fit and reasonable ride height.

But no point shouting about it. If the majority in this country havnt got it yet after all these years, there never going to.

This

some valid points here.

I agree with the whole wheel fitment and random parts stuck on. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but some of the cars out there today really make me want to puke. Last night I was watching this

This was the highest level just over ten years ago. Ok, some of the driving, lock and power is nothing like today but just look at the cars. I much prefer to go watch things like final bout or some of the Japanese dudes like a bo moon because it looks good and a lot of fun, to me the point of the sport :)

hence why i had fun and done what i liked ;) i go out drift/drag/track my car cos its built to have fun :) and fuck all the v8/police haters lol

lol.

that IS absolutely hidious mate.

someone should make a good looking nissan slammed to the floor and go abuse it like they do in other countries.......... oh wait.

i'm gonna have to buy another one day just to make the ratio of good looking drift cars to wanky lifestylers a bit better.

EDIT: people also have it in their heads that slammed cars handle real shit. This is NOT the case........

I can see the point, but without knowing how many practice days they have, what the costs of said days are, already knowing the cars and the modification costs are generally cheaper there than they are here and knowing that its sunny 90% of the time in California with no rust I dont think we do too badly.

Without being funny you could do exactly the same thing with a drag meet, with stock car racing, demolition derbies, whatever - they just do shit like this better than we do. Besides, Id personally rather watch D1SL than Formula D if you know what I mean ;)

It's quite funny actually is that people think it's stupid to have a tidy drift car "cause your gonna smash it up" er excuse me? I attend practice days to do just that, not to hit objects, same as saying why have a good looking track car? The idea of drifting is to not hit shit

Sometimes mistakes happen yes, but again mistakes happen on track days, yet you don't see people with 50k+ cars giving up.

Put it this way, next week my new e36 goes into the bodyshop to have a new bumper skirts mirrors, and have arches and roof sprayed because I like my cars to look clean. I'm not a snob, but it's nice to look at my car parked up and think it actually looks pretty mint for a 20 odd year old car.

Some of my friends commented saying "what's the point it's a drift car?" so what? My last mx5 only had a few light marks and one dent from over a year of drifting.

Also the no headlights/bumper/bonnet thing pisses me off, seriously is the 20 odd quid for a headlight not worth it looking like it didn't just drive out the scrappy?

call me judgemental but i'm willing to bet you don't drive too hard. a lot of the lads i used to go out with would do more damage than you've mentioned every time they went out.

here on driftworks we like drivers who drive well ard.

Like zorny said, go to a track day. People tracking their pride and joy, all of which a mint. They have to be otherwise they wouldn't be all owned on track.

I hate the idea that your car has to look turd to drift it. You obviously build one to your budget, it's not hard or that expensive to make a car look good. Struggle posted a pic of his old one, looked the balls and not exactly bank breaking.

Geldy your car obviously has some work put Into it with the v8 swap and the chassis, a little bit more money on some body work, a paint job and some good looking wheels and you would be 1000000x better.

I don't know the dudes name (think it's Alex??) but he runs bdc and has a 14 with yellow graphix down side. His car is pretty much stock 14 bodywork but looks the absolute tits! And simply because he has the wheel fitment and ride height bang on.

That's not a fair comparison as you can't get a cheap track car in the same way you can get a drift missile, unless you are truly loaded.

I have an s14a as my main drift car, and an E36 as a missile. The main reason for the missile is to allow me to keep getting seat time while the 200 is getting work done. It's also great fun :) My 200 doesn't look much and I'm sure a lot on here wouldn't like it, but I like it and it's a work in progress.

For me it's all about having fun and enjoying my cars, but to each their own. I'm not going to judge.

I drive plenty hard mate, infact every single time I had a passenger in my mx5 at Norfolk they would comment on how much more fun it is as I was chucking the car about as fast as possible.

I just make sure I don't act stupid and plough into stuff.

Also cones don't cause much damage to oem bodyparts unlike all this shit fibreglass people plaster all over their cars.

And this post is exactly what I mean, basically your saying "your a pussy because you don't trash your car" er what? I don't drive hard enough because one of your mates is constantly smashing his car up? So that means that someone thats smashes their car up like their at a destruction derby is a good "drifter" when someone that doesn't damage their car to much of an extend is shit? When the aim of the game is drifting around a track/objects? I.e not hitting them?

So a 800 quid mx5 isn't a cheap track car? Again it's the Internet that creates bollocks of you need a gazillion bhp to have a track car, infact e36 and mx5s are some of the biggest budget track cars, the mods are similar as to what we do for drifting. Just instead of spending money on lock kits they spend money on tyres and brake pads.
