SR Gearbox Solution ??

all i know is a use a truck based gearbox/diff oil in my diff and g/box and never blown a box!!!! YET !!!

Yep, it makes a big difference. I used to use some crazy thick comma stuff. It was like pouring treacle but doubled the box life. Most JDM bummers will say that it doesn't do anything. But in reality it does.

Did 17 or 18 boxes across 2007/2008 in the S14.5. It was down to the clutch, gearbox mounts and collapsed diff bearings.

Want me to blew you to?
:euge:

Bizzle i know the americans use a few of the tremec boxes, do you know which ones and and info on the conversion ??

Clarkey.

Yep, the Borg Warner T56 6 speed box out of the 04-06 Dodge Viper.
It's got a 26 spline input shaft and is 600ftlb's 800nm capable. Be aware that not all T56's are the same. Some of the Ford/GM boxes are 10 spline input and only 385ftlb capable.

The updated version built by TTC is the TR-6060. It's effectivly the same box, 600ftlb/800nm capable. It comes in....

* 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
* 2008 Chevrolet Corvette
* 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10
* 2008 Ford Falcon FG Range
* 2008 Holden Special Vehicles Range
* 2009 Dodge Challenger
* 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP
* 2009 Cadillac CTS-V
* 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS

Transsmission Components in Letchworth will do you a full sequential gearset. As will PPG for $7500 aud.

i've heard alot about the T56, she is a big box tho.

Yep, 125lb's with a bell housing.
She's a big old girl. But it's designed to take abuse from stupid people (Americans) who don't know how to drive there 500hp vipers.

Look at it this way, a completely standard T56 is specifically designed to run comfy at 500hp/600ftlbs' all day, all night, over hundreds of thousands of miles. It's made to put up with bad maintenance and retarded drivers.

The Z32/RB25 box is designed to cope with 250hp.

The 200sx/180sx box is designed to cope with 198hp.

Not to mention the aftermarket support for anything T56/Borg Warner is vastly superior to anything you can get from Nissan/Toyota/BMW/Jaguar/Ford. etc.

Our Yankee Cousins across the pond are running 8-900hp supercharged SRT/10 engines through the standard dodge t56..

Let's just say that "Theoretically" a Dodge T56 will fit into an R34 while bolted to a VH41 V8 engine.

i found a place that can supply the T56 internals and its about 1-2 weeks in from the states. just waiting on prices.

I was chatting to him about issues and even he was shocked that not many people use yank spec box's btu also shocked to hear rb25 boxes arent stronger than they should be

Its common knowlage :)

Yes, extreamly common.
I was shocked when i saw that people had invested time and money creating an RB25 adapter plate for the SR. Polo's adapter plate sure it very pretty, but unfortunatly in a drift car - pretty much utterly pointless. Your replacing a box thats designed for 198hp, with a box that's designed for 250hp. If your running 400hp, it's like replacing chocolate with chocolate.

Didn't anybody actually look at design specs of the gearboxes before you spent time and money designing an adapter plate?

I find most people that moan about Sr20 boxes are people that use cheap 200k mile S13 boxes and wonder why they break, my box is a later S14a type and has done 3 round and alot more abuse and all it has to show for it is some noise bearings.

Yeah, sorry about that.
But an RB25 gearbox conversion isn't going to solve the problem on it's own. With a twin plate clutch your still going to have a problem. With a carbon clutch (best part of a grand) your going to have less problems but it won't be bullet proof.

If your going to spend the money on a new box (Open market RB25 box is around £400 these days) then a clutch for a £1000) plus an adaptor plate, you might as well spend a little more money and buy a T56.

No need to say sorry to me mate, my bonfires still raging for now :)

Anyhow, have you got anymore info on the truck oil that you were using, where is best place to start looking?

Also a marginally off topic question?? I have solid subframe, solid diff, stock r33 gearbox mount, stock ca18 engine mounts and a max puck clutch. Now and then when I pull away I get a wobbling, vibrating sensation down through my transmission. Do you reckon fitting high end mounts will solve this issue, and if so recommend me some mounts please :D

Cheers

Ok cool I do some research about backlash. I hope its nothing to major cose I only just got the diff from haza a couple weeks ago, although my welded r33 did it aswell :(

It could be a number of things tbh.
Fitting uprated engine & gearbox mounts is a good call either way. Best bet in my opinion is to get Tappin to mill you up some solid bushes and just solid mount the engine to the cross member. If you give him a fucked box mount he'll be able to sort you something out there too. Otherwise, the Driftworks shop sell them i think?

Oil wise, i use comma 85w - 140.
