So more progress, started mounting up the fuel system. I mounted the fuel pump on rubber bobbins to try and isolate some of the noise of a bosch 044. Ambitions but maybe possibly it will help.
The next thing was to mount up the swirl pot. Due to the height of the bobbins i had to mount the swirl pot ok spacers which i made from some ali i had laying about.
It came out pretty well.
Then went to start plumbing it up only to realise i had 10mm fittings on the swirl pot when i needed 8mm. So ive ordered some weld on 8mm barbs to weld on there so i can actually plumb it up and put the tank in the car.
So onto problem number 2. The snapped turbo flange stud. A lad in the unit next door but one is a tig welder. And had a mobile tig set. Rather than dragging my engine to work i got him to pop around and tig some studs in for me in situe.
He tigged in a new set of studs. Not the prettiest but it works.
Then just to ensure a good seal over the welds for the studs. We opened up the wholes on the gasket.
Then as a second precaution we put a small countersink on the turbo too.
Then bolted it up lovely so did the water and oil lines.
I picked up an injector loom and an rb25 viscous fan from a friend.
I got the loom plugged in.
Then I got it off the engine stand ready to get the clutch and flywheel on.
I cleaned up the flywheel bolts on a wire wheel.
Then i mounted flywheel up.
Bolted it up with some loktite and torqued it up which took some thinking and a lever bar to do on my own.
Then like a twat I realised i needed to change the pilot bushing and i bolted the flywheel on in the way. So i then had to figure a way. I made a tool. With some some cunning and ghetto techniques.
It needed to be a tight fit to the current spiggot. Its not stupid if it works right.
Then I tried to use some thin grease i had in the unit but that didnt work. So took a quick trip home and got something more effective.
I went for the healthier option. No body wants a fat RB.
It worked a treat.
Result. Bread saves the day. This was why it needed to come out however.
It was fucked. So I chucked a new one on.
Onto the next mission. Fitting up the clutch. I ordered new arp clutch cover bolts because i had none.
Then onto fitting up the clutch itself.
All done. And it was time for a pizza break. The mrs delivered me a dominos. And a beer. What a girl. So i sat infront of the fire watching FD with a beer and pizza.
And not a bad view either.
Then i chucked the box on after dinner. Which i have to say was a pain in the arse on my own.
Also got the starter bolted up and a few other little bits. Then i was about ready to bolt it in the car.
I had one quick go. However on my own with a freshly painted bay, i didnt fancy my chances. So i called it off untill another day where i can get a bit of help.
So thats where we are up too. I really wanted to get the engine in however I’ve still made good progress so i cant grumble too much.
Cheers for reading, if anyone even is anymore that is.
