The R32 Chronicles

How filthy is the interior on your daily driver!?! My god, theres stuff growing in the hazard switch!

Teesside days are really good. 3sisters is a waste of time.

So we have made a small bit of progress. I let the paint cure under the car then came back the following week. The game plan was to get all the lines run under the car then get it down on the floor.
43D82D87-CC34-4F15-AC53-BC7F2C707BC6.jpeg

So we figured out rough lengths. Left more than enough on it to be able to run the rest of the fuel system.
425E0A88-28FB-4E3B-B305-B331C82B1AF0.jpeg

P clipped all up nicely. Then onto the brake lines.
4C32ECC2-53B4-4855-9BD5-8EFE78B6123F.jpeg

Ran the main brake line from the front to the back t piece.
13061D98-8322-47AF-813D-AB9AB622B0E9.jpeg

Ran the line to one rear flexi point.

Then figured out the rough route for the other line above the subframe.

Not the neatest job in the world. Infinitely harder than I thought to make nice brake lines. Fuck that job.

Bunged up the ports im not using on the inlet manifold. So i am waiting on a few gaskets and the inlet is ready to bolt onto the engine.

Next mission was to check the fuel tank.

I need a new o ring for the seal, however despite the crusty exterior the inside of the fuel tank was immaculate which is good new.

Then onto the important job.

Dinner. The workshop was cold as shit. So improvised some heating whilst eating. Then onto the scary job.

The righting of the ship. It was sketchy as balls but we got there.

Thanks to the help of the engine crane.

Then for the first time since the car has been in the unit. Got it up on axle stands. Not on tyres. Which now i know the floor is solid im not scared to do haha.

So now i just have to strip and underseal the drivers side arches which i couldnt do whilst the car was on its side. Then the car is ready to become a roller. I cant fucking wait guys. So close. Im hoping to get the arches done next weekend. The plan is to make it a roller over christmas and get it fully mocked up with all pannels.

So i pulled the s15 back in the unit and headed home.

Cant fucking wait to show you this mother fucker on wheels again haha.

Ps im sorry the photos have gone to shit quality the camera on my phone is fucked. Its pissing me off.

Bro my daily is a fucking shit hole. Its disgusting as fuck I haven’t had it cleaned for like 6 months haha. I do a dirty job for a living and constantly get in it filthy so i dont bother cleaning it. However its getting out of hand.

So i have been slack. And not updated this. However its Christmas holidays I’ve eaten lots of food, everyone is asleep and im bored. So its time I reckon to do an update.

First things first was to dig out all the nuts and bolts i took off the car about 2 years ago. Then shout and swear and try and figure out what the fuck goes where.

Id already loosely built up a majority of the rear subframe.

I chucked the diff in the subframe. Which is a welded 4:3.
55054A88-91C8-4049-AEC9-C17B271F2E5E.jpeg

Then I set to work on the front suspension.

CF307961-D772-461F-AE81-A2D5BAD0806E.jpeg

Got the powdercoated subframe moun on, kinked japspeed tension rods, freshly powdercoated upper camber arm bracket, freshly poweder coated extended stock lower arms with fresh ball joints and driftworks poly bushes and freshly powdercoated front subframe with the rack moved forward 25mm with an s15 steerting rack with poly rack bushes.

Then chucked the hub on.

I then did the other side. With figuring out what bolts went where and where i had put the boxes of bolts i took off.

Then onto putting the rear subframe in the car. This was a little bit of an ordeal on my own with solid bushes.

Me and my trusty mate trolly jack.

I got it up onto the car and started trying to work it up the studs. Its a mission to get it alighned on your own but we got there.
1AC25961-562D-4A00-B406-4468524EA281.jpeg

With the subframe bushes lathed to raise the subframe i had to make a packer for the rear studs to actually do the nuts up tight to the car.

Once id figured that out it was time, for something id been looking forward too for a while. Wheels on the car.

I borrowed a pair of adams skid wheels because my ssr’s are on his car at the momement. Following that, the car touched the floor on wheels for the first time in about 2 years.

Quickly followed by the front.
CAF0E1C4-1A73-4124-B12D-7179D4805F08.jpeg

Now at this point i had achieved what i had set out to do for the day. Then Adam rocked up and had other plans.

You get the jist on where this headed.

I had a quick celebratory beer.

Then things got Way out of hand.

Obviously only a rough mock up, nothing fitted properly, everything is filthy and the car is about 1.5” too high, but fuck me this was a good feeling, it definitely has potential.

Can't believe how much rust was on this, You've done an awful amount of work on it. Looks like it's starting to come together now! I'll be making a build thread for my R32 4dr Sedan soon, As I'm starting to crack on with it finally.

Oh man. I couldn’t belive how much rust was in it either untill i was balls deep in it. Its starting to make sense now.

So popped up over christmas to do a quick engine mock up to make sure everything works with the new tubs before the bay gets painted.

Threw the tall block in with the exhaust manifold on.

Then tried the inlet manifold and turbo on.

Then i walked around the unit smiling at my car, its the first time its had an engine in it, in my ownership. Looked pretty cool but unfortunately i had to pull it straight back out again.

Then i had an hour of so to kill before i needed to leave so i decided to prep and paint my inlet manifold as the silver looked tacky and dirty and shit haha.

3E47390D-BE7B-4080-8C21-91194FC7B869.jpeg

So masked it up and hung it off the crane.

0DB5B5A0-AF51-4CEC-924A-D8E832875CD0.jpeg

Threw a coat of paint over it and fucked off home.

Popped in as i was passing the next day and it turned out pretty nice.

So thats nearly ready to be bolted to the block permanently.

Also I noticed i may have some clearance issues when the engine was in the car.

So thats going to need some figuring out, but i think thats easy sorted. I also haven’t fully figured out my rideheight yet so im a little way of worrying about that.

Also ive bought an external wastegate so thats on its way. Also the ssr’s from japan should be here some time this month so its all go.

Can see in this pic how much extra room the tubs give!! Although the wheel does look very far back in the arch, so when it comes to it the wheel might be a fair bit further forward than where it is now?

Yeah man everything is just chucked on. The tension rods are far too long at the minute i think that will solve a lot of my problems, also i will raise it slightly from where it sits in that photo anyway.

So had a couple of hours up the unit on friday, i didnt get a lot done as i had a meeting late afternoon i needed to be at, however i got the whole car cavity waxed which took a little while but hopefully will be worth it. To stop any future problems.

Also i fitted up my inlet manifold to the block with all new gaskets and bolts/ studs. And even treated it to a genuine Greddy badge. So freddy looks his best.

That was all i got done. I am waiting on the external gate to turn up so i can weld the v band on my manifold and then the manifold can be fitted up.

So i got some photos sent to me last night from Adam who i share my unit with. He has made a start on painting my bay.

All rubbed down.
D3FE4E26-96F6-49E7-94AD-D796EA9E0B93.jpeg

Primered which is mental to finally see all one colour.

Then he sent me the photo with some basecoat.
B4F7FEF3-57E0-465A-8C3D-4DA68114B995.jpeg

The colour is darker than it looks in the photo. It has a really bright led light on it. He had a small reaction in the basecoat so he is going to come back and sort that and lacquer it another day.

Really grateful of his help. It looks sick cant wait to see the bay all finished. So good to see colour on it at last.

So a quick update. Im in the process of buying a house at the moment so havent had time to work on the car. However that doesn’t mean all progress has stopped.

Wastegate arrived.

It looks sick. So pleased with the photos ive seen. Ive not even had chance to see it in person yet. More progress coming soon.
