I believe its for the butterfly valves on the inlet.

If you blank it off I believe they are constantly open which is better.

Yep it's the actuator jobbie for the second set of ports.

Only really found on JDM engines, all the engines over here came with the 4-port head.

Ok cheers, whats the best way to blank it off then, this isnt my engine by the way its a mates s13 that he bought but it currently in bits.

yea i was reading a thread on this last night but the guy who did it had to drill the pulley holes out to get the the timing right but i guess you could just use a vernier pulley. is there much difference between a ca16de inlet and the ca18det exhaust cam? which one would be better?

edit: never mind i found the specs they are the same. they have the same lift and duration, but different center lobe angle, i don't know what that means is it the aggressiveness or what???

EURO spec CA16DE....
In lift - 8.5mm
Ex lift - 8.5mm
In duration - 248
Ex duration - 248
In opens - 15 BTDC
In closes - 53 ABDC
In center lobe angle - 109deg
Ex opens - 59 BBDC
Ex closes - 9 ATDC
Ex center lobe angle - 115deg

JPN spec CA18DE S13...
In lift - 7.8mm
Ex lift - 8.5mm
In duration - 240
Ex duration - 248
In opens - 0 BTDC
In closes - 60 ABDC
In center lobe angle - 120deg
Ex opens - 59 BBDC
Ex closes - 9 ATDC
Ex center lobe angle - 115deg

JPN spec CA18DET S13...

I run a standard cam and on mine and it drives fine! Probably overfuels a bit due to the timing being 1 tooth out but nothing major! Drives fine and pulls amazing

Ignition timing is 14 Deg BTDC.

Yours sounds like the cambelt is a tooth out tho, easy mistake to make.

Checked my timing and looks ok

The only thing I could find was this

As you can see is all chiped would this afect it?

Does any one have a pic of were there cas is set? Mine is spot on in the centre ? Dont have a working timing gun atm to set it up just wana see if looks correct for after my belts are done

You counted the number of teeth between each belt run??
You can't just line it up and check the dots

CAS should be roughly in the middle, slightly over to one side IIRC.
Worth taking your CAS out and inspecting the splines on the CAS and the cam to make sure they're not worn.

can some one please confirm for me that these two sensors are the idle control valve and the air-con idle raiser to raise the idle when you put the air-con on. and that the air-con sensor is the one sandwiched between the intake and the other sensor (with the long sticky out bit?

On a standard ca can some tell me where the 3 vacum pipes that go to the boost controler on the passenger side inner wing go to, i remember 1 went into the pipe before the turbo but cant remember where the other 2 go.
Cheers

Hot Start Solenoid I'd imagine, usually by-passed as it's a piece of shit.

However I did once see a stock S14 boost solenoid jury-rigged in the same position, still can't understand the thinking behind that one :wack:

Anybody know what oil pressure/temp a CA should run at normally?

Was driving back from Slide Motorsport today on the M62 doing a steady 65-70mph and my oil temp got to about 102 degrees.

Dropped to about 55-60 and it dropped down to about 95 degrees.

Is this normal? Also im running Depo gauges so not cheapo ones
